Helen was born on August 17, 1944, in Whitefish, Mont., to Frank and Doris Neufeld. When Helen was young the family moved to Chinook, Mont., where she and her sister Myrla were raised. She graduated from Chinook High School in 1962 and shortly thereafter moved to Havre, Mont., with Robert where they attended college together. Helen and Robert W. Soper eloped on September 21, 1963, at The Hitching Post in Coeur d'Alene, ID, and they graduated from MSU-Northern together with their Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary Teacher Education in 1967. Together, they lived in Frankfort, Germany for a year and a half where Christopher Jay Soper was born on January 1, 1969. The Soper family moved to Malta, Mont., in 1969 where Robert eventually built their beautiful family home. On July 23, 1971, Helen and Robert adopted Randy Ray Soper, born on January 6, 1971. Helen was a second and third-grade teacher in Malta from 1969 to 1992. On June 8, 1991, Helen and Robert became Grandparents for the first time, and in 1992 they became adoptive parents once again to Randy's daughter, Jade Rayne Berry (Day), after Randy's passing. In 1994 the family moved to Havre, Mont., where Helen dedicated her time to being a stay-at-home Mom and Wife. Throughout most of Helen's life, she enjoyed working on art projects, drawing and painting portraits, and teaching art lessons. Helen spent many years as a member and contributor of the Havre Art Gallery, and in the late 1990s into the early 2000s she owned an art studio and art shop in downtown Havre. She also had a talent for being a seamstress. Helen was very social, and she loved having family and friends over for parties, gatherings, and holiday dinners.
