M-ettes Pick Up Wins Over 2B Foes

The Malta M-ettes basketball team won a pair of District 2B road games last week, beating the Harlem Lady Wildcats 70-39 last Saturday, January 20, and the Poplar Lady Indians 51-42 on Friday, January 19.

In Malta's win over Harlem, Elly Anderson led the M-ettes with 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Kelbie Nelson had 13 points and four rebounds. Denvyr Tuss had 11 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Emree Stuart had seven points and 10 rebounds. Kylie Bishop had six points. Caitlyn Wilson had six points. Giona Lamb had five points and seven rebounds. Kendall Clausen had five points and six rebounds. Neva Jacobson had two points and five steals. Tailynn Wilke had one point.

Malta outscored the LadyCats 21-1 in the first quarter, 17-7 in the second quarter, and 17-12 in the third quarter. Harlem scored 19 points in the fourth quarter and Malta scored 15 points.

Malta had 51 rebounds as a team, 36 points in the paint, 20 points off of the 20 turnovers they forced, and 13 steals. The M-ettes made 19-of-47 (40.4%) two point field goal attempts. They were 6-of-18 (33.3%) from three point range.

In Malta's win over Poplar, the M-ettes were led by Jacobson who had 11 points, six rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Clausen had 10 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Tuss had nine points, 13 rebounds, and two steals. Nelson had eight points and seven rebounds. Anderson had seven points and three rebounds. Addison Ulrich, Stuart, and Lamb each had two points.

Despite giving up an early lead, Malta was able to outscore Poplar 15-10 in the first quarter, and maintain a lead throughout the rest of the game. They led 28-20 at halftime and 45-31 at the conclusion of the third quarter. Poplar outscored Malta 11-6 in the fourth quarter.

The M-ettes made 37% of their field goals. The team was 15-of-37 (40.5%) from two point range and 5-of-17 (29.4%) from three point range.

The M-ettes were scheduled to face the Fergus Golden Eagles on Tuesday, January 23. Coverage of the game will be available in next week's PCN. They are also set to host the Roy-Winifred Outlaws on Thursday, January 25, at 6 p.m. Malta will travel to Fairview on Saturday, January 27, to take on the Warriors at 4 p.m.
