One Nation, Under God
The First State Bank of Malta would like to thank Michael "Mick" Morrison for his 22 years of service on the boards of First State Bank and F.S. Banco, Inc.
Mick was a 1966 graduate of Malta High School who went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army's 101st Airborne Infantry. Mick served bravely in Vietnam where he earned several citations, (National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Air Medal, and the Bronze Star). Mick reached the rank of Platoon Sergeant while in the Army.
Mick worked on his parents (Keith and Dorothy Morrison) farm after returning from the military, as well as Braden-Pehlke Construction in Glasgow, and finally Great Plains, before coming home to the farm for good in 1977.
Mick and Paula were married in 1972 and have two children, Tawnya Coleman of Gillette, Wyoming, and Jason (Cherisha) Morrison of Loring. Tawnya and Jason have blessed Mick and Paula with five grandsons; Chase and Blake who are in Gillette and Kage, Kyson, and Kreed on the farm near Loring. These five grandsons like to keep Mick and Paula light on their feet.
Mick has served Phillips County in several ways; Election Board, Loring Hall Board, 4H leader, Loring Trap Club, Milk River Wagon Train, and Malta Club to name a few. Mick still enjoys helping his son on the farm whenever he can. Mick has fun hunting, fishing, and an occasional round of golf with his buddies. He is one of the "Original 8" on the Laughlin golf trip, Yabba Dabba Doo!
Board Chairman Bob Galt stated that both boards will miss Mick's experience and insight that has been such a big help over the last 20-plus years. "Mick was not afraid to ask the tough questions and impart his opinion when he felt it was needed". All the board members wish Mick the very best and ask that he continue to stop by the bank if just for a visit and meet with the directors when it's time to flip quarters!!
Replacing Mick on both boards will be Thomas Sunford of Saco, Montana.
Tom and his wife, Shyla, raise their three young kids, Nola, Lake, and Tilly, just outside of Saco, taking in all the great opportunities that living on a farm in the country provides. Tom graduated in 2000 from Saco High School and attended MSU-Northern to receive his associate degree in agriculture technology. Following that, he moved back home to start farming. Along with his brother Jim, they've been able to continue farming in the Saco area and hope to watch the next generation as well.
First State Bank believes that Tom will be a nice addition to the board, bringing insight and experience from the agricultural sector as well as values instilled in him by his family and the Phillips County community.
On behalf of First State Bank, Chairman Galt would like to welcome Tom and thank him for his acceptance of these positions. "Board service in any situation is a challenge and sometimes a burden, but we are very happy to have the opportunity to work with Tom and utilize his knowledge of the ag industry".
