The Malta Wrestling Teams competed at the Cut Bank Booster Invitational this past weekend.
The Mustangs placed ninth out of 25 boys teams with a total of 102 points. The M-ettes were 16th out of 22 girls teams with 23 points.
Malta was led by Mustang Kohner "Chaka" Schipman who earned first place and 32 points in the 138 pound class. He defeated Havre's Carson Harris by 1-0 decision in the championship bout.
Schipman won all five of his matches, including a semifinal pin over Drew Carey of Plains-Hot Springs in the semifinals at 3:55.
Ava Hanson led the M-ettes with a second place finish in the 165 pound weight class. She was pinned by Kara Jones in the championship at 2:34. To reach the title match, Hanson won her semifinal match over Harley Fetter of Cut Bank by 6-2 decision.
Kenan LaBrie was fourth in the 170 pound class and scored 20 points for Malta. LaBrie won his consolation semi-final matchup over Havre's Landen Caplette by pin fall at 4:36. LaBrie lost the third place match to Fort Benton's Cade Ball by 8-0 Major Decision. LaBrie pinned four of his opponents.
Colton Mears was fifth in the 182 pound class. He won his fifth place match by medical forfeit by Lincoln County's Caden Pecora. Mears went 5-2.
Straud Sims was fifth in the 152 class and scored 21 points. Sims won five of his seven matches, each win by pinfall. He pinned Harlem's Leon Champagne at 2:36 in the fifth place match.
Trooper Stiles scored 13 points and was sixth in the 138 class. He went 3-3 in Cut Bank.
M-ette Samme Gibbs placed sixth in the 145 pound class and scored three points for Malta.
AJ Marquis scored four points for Malta. She pinned Arlee's Kayden Dillard at 3:46 in the second round of consolation.
Malta will be heading to the Miles City Cowboy Invitational on Friday, January 12.
