One Nation, Under God

Wreaths Across America

Sunday, December 17th, was "Wreaths Across America Day," when nationally wreaths were laid on the graves of deceased military individuals. Locally, a team of four, which included two of the American Legion Juniors, worked about 25 hours to create and erect two large wreaths to honor local veterans.

Jaylee Anderson self-appointed herself as Chairman of the project, as well as decoration decision maker, and did an excellent job. She was assisted by Charlee Anderson. The task was possible thanks to the assistance of David Rummel, chief branch trimmer. The project was completed with the placement of the two wreaths.

One wreath is placed at the Veterans Park on Front Street. The second wreath found its place of honor at the Cemetery, where the men and women who have served and fought for our country have been laid to eternal rest.

At the Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison in Helena, all 862 graves have been graced with a wreath. Each year through donations, wreaths are purchased and volunteers spend the time to walk the hallowed ground and see that each veteran is remembered.

The action was only a small gesture of thanksgiving for the sacrifices our military have given. Small, but at least the locals were thought of on this day of recognition. If you would like to help next year, please call the VFW Post 4067 and leave your name and phone number on the answering machine. You may also contact any VFW or American Legion Auxiliary member.
