The Malta City Council, upon the recommendation of Mayor Shyla Jones, voted to reappoint Carolyn Schmoeckel as clerk/treasurer and John Demarais as public works director. Both appointments are for one year.
William and Carol Hofer of the East Malta Colony announce the arrival of Asher John Hofer, born Dec. 24, in Glasgow.
Selected as Snowball Royalty were King Kelin King and Queen Mariah Pankratz.
The Billings Clinic MedFlight’s pilot transporting you might happen to be Andrea (Robinson) McCaffree, formerly of Zortman. She was following in the footsteps of her dad, Clyde, who is also a flight instructor.
Jim and Anita Wilke received a $5,000 grant from the PetCo Foundation to purchase a new enclosed trailer for their business, RezQ Dogs. Their new 53’ trailer will house the dogs in sub-zero weather.
Locals placing in the Tant Anderson Memorial Team Roping held at the Pavilion included Randy Taylor and Clinton Cox; Jace Bishop and John Graham; Jesse Benson and Larry Nordlund; Shayne Bishop and Sandy Olson; and Shayne Bishop and Rufus Rameriz.
Coach Ryan LaBrie was proud of Chase Murray, who won 5 of his wrestling matches, a team-high.

Kelly Cole is a member of the Math Society for the 1998-99 academic year at the College of Saint Benedick and Saint John’s University. She is the daughter of Elwyn and Terri Cole of Dodson.
Nate Murphy, a collector of dinosaur bones, found himself becoming an expert now on old outlaws, namely the infamous Kid Curry. Murphy was able to secure the Colt .45 pistol that Kid Curry used to kill Pike Landusky and donated it to the Phillips County Museum.
Marianne (Emond) Caballero was setting up to launch her career as an artist. She and her husband, Gil, who is also an artist, have built a studio and are attending art and western shows with their work.
The Malta Mustangs outlasted a tenacious bunch of Chinook Sugarbeeters to take a 53-44 win. This win put the Mustangs, defending State B champions, with a 4-0 record going into the holiday break.
The team of Mike Brady and Katie Veseth took 1st in Team Debate at the Fairfield Speech and Drama meet on Dec. 11th. As a team, Malta took first place in the meet.
Marko Manoukian will begin his new job as the County Agent. His family includes his wife, Linda, and two children, Troy and Marley.

Russ and Ken Cebulski will start a new private pilot ground school on Jan. 8th at the airport.
Airman John Schwartz has been assigned to Lowry AFB, Colorado, after completing Air Force basic training. A 1973 graduate of Malta High School, he is the son of Ingelef Schwartz.
Wrestlers Dennis Siegle, Stan Davis, Steve Baeth, Doug Paulson, and Pete Lumsden ended up winning their matches; the Glasgow Scotties still pulled off a 31-20 victory over the Mustangs.
Family and friends are invited to an open house honoring Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Johnston’s 40th wedding anniversary. It will be held at the Bill Crowder residence from 2-5 p.m.
John J. Reddy of the Immigration and Naturalization Service stated that aliens in the U.S. will be required to report their addresses to the Attorney General within the near future. All aliens who are in the U.S. on January 1 each year must report their addresses by the end of that month.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bruckner had enjoyed an experience of a lifetime in October when they toured Africa.
Airman John F. Carnahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carnahan, has been assigned to Lowry AFB, Colo., after completing basic training.
Ruth Johnson has been named as the recipient of this year’s D.A.R. Good Citizenship award. She is a senior at Malta High School.
For Archie Freestone, giving isn’t just the Christmas season. He is 80 years old and a resident of the Malta Nursing Home, and he spends much of his free time making funny books for children. Freestone makes the books himself, using cartoons and pictures and attaching them to typing paper.
Laura Lucht, a sophomore at Malta High School, had a poem she wrote entitled “The Closing of the Day” published in a monthly magazine “North Country Anvil” in Melville, Minn.

3,068 years of living were represented at Fred L. Robinson’s 10th annual Christmas dinner for widowers and bachelors. The average age of the 41 men attending was 74 years and nine months. George Cummings was the oldest at 90 years old.
Chief of Police A. W. Pray is continuing to recover from gunshot wounds inflicted last week by Jimmy O’Brien while the chief of police was investigating trouble at the O’Brien apartment on Front Street.
FFA Green Hand members initiated to the Chapter Farmer level were Frank French, Roger Green, Jerry Maloney, Robert Jaynes, George French, Roy Lind, Leslie Solberg, Doug Plouffe and Billy Woodcock. Also buying jackets were Lloyd Knudsen, Wayne Jacobs, Marion Waters and Bob Anderson.
The administrator of the state liquor system announced that over $1,000,000 had been turned over to the state general fund.
Montana was among the few states with a Christmas holiday free of automobile accident deaths, as was announced by the state highway patrol office this week.

The First National Bank of Dodson had closed its doors, not unexpectedly. It was the second in the county to close during the year, the first being the Bowdoin Bank.
Trains through Malta were running from one to four hours late. The grade school had closed one day, and all grades were dismissed at 2 o’clock. All this was due to very cold weather, the coldest having been 37 below zero.
The McNeil brothers had made a haul of 40,000 pounds of carp from Bowdoin Lake.

Lee Whitney had the lumber on hand for a new house; The Enterprise anticipated a wedding in the near future.
Uncle Dan Tressler was in from Zortman with the news of a big gold discovery at the Bald Eagle mine, owned by Alex Black.
Frank Erfurth had taken a contract to bale 200 tons of hay on the H. G. Robinson ranch at Ashfield.
