Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen Shares November 2023 New Business Registrations

Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen shared the number of new business registrations filed with the state in November 2023. According to the Montana Business Economic Report, roughly 4,400 new businesses were registered in Montana during the month of November.

For comparison, approximately 4,000 new businesses registered in November 2022.

Montana has had record new business registrations in each of the past two years, with more than 53,000 new businesses registering with the Secretary of State's Office last year. Through the first 11 months in 2023, some 54,000 new business registrations had been filed in Montana, meaning the state is on pace to again set a record in new business registrations.

"Montana businesses begin their journey by registering with our office and we're honored to serve them along the way," said Secretary Jacobsen. "In recent years, Montana has been ranked the No. 1 state to start a new small business, and our office has cut and eliminated a number of fees. We're proud to make it easier to do business in Montana, and pleased to serve our business community every day."

Due to increased efficiencies in the Secretary of State's Office, Secretary Jacobsen has looked for ways to reduce red tape and eliminate government deterrents for Montana's business community. Since taking office, Secretary Jacobsen has cut registration fees in half for Montana businesses, waived several other fees, and 2024 Annual Report filing fees will be waived for all Montana businesses who file the report between January 1 and April 15, 2024.

Earlier this year, Secretary Jacobsen was honored by the Mountain States Policy Center (MSPC) for making it easier to do business in Montana. The MSPC presented Secretary Jacobsen with its "Elevation Award" at a banquet highlighting the top innovators, business leaders, or elected officials in Idaho, Montana, and Washington.
