Lady Coyotes Welcome Four Transfers
The Lady Coyotes welcome several new faces this season including four transfer students from Harlem.
Dodson also has retained several athletes from last year including their lone All State selection, senior Kataya KillEagle.
They will be without Lindsey Fetter who graduated last spring.
The team welcomes back Head Coach Clayton KillEagle and a new Assistant Coach, Christina Jaynes, who was an All-Conference player in a majority of her years as a Lady Coyote.
K. KillEagle set the career scoring mark last season and has already added to her record, scoring 26 in their win over Terry on Friday, December 1, and 19 in the team's loss to Mon-Dak on Saturday, December 2.
"She constantly stays in the gym in the off-season, so I already knew going into this season how prepared she is mentally and physically," Coach KillEagle said. "She stays pretty fit and she competed in the volleyball program at Malta. I can always count on Kataya to do the work outside of the gym. That's never really been a problem."
KillEagle's play has put college recruits on notice, and Coach KillEagle has mentioned that at least one college has been recruiting Kataya.
Coach KillEagle said that he will try to enjoy Kataya's game more this season, not having to give the senior as many words on the court, because she has been in the system for four years.
"It's your senior season," he said. "I'm a fan and a coach at the same time."
The team welcomes Amara Johnson, a junior transfer from Harlem, who plays in the post.
"Amara has got the size for us under the basket," Coach KillEagle said. "She brings a lot of hustle. I do need to get her a little more aggressive, but other than that, she brings the size. She has the heart. She has the effort."
He said that she works hard during practices and shows up to every practice.
"She is going to turn some heads, I think," Coach KillEagle said.
Sophomore Jazlyn KillEagle has started for Dodson over the past couple of seasons.
"I have never had a problem with Jazlyn putting in the work outside of the program," Coach KillEalge said. "She is always coming in prepared, knowing what to expect, knowing what is expected of her. This season, I have seen that she is more into it. She doesn't think too much and she is more confident."
He said that Jazlyn has become more than just a guard thrown into the rotation. He said that she has become a vocal leader.
"That took me by surprise because I have never known Jazlyn to take a leadership role, but she is into it and focused," Coach KillEagle said. "I told her mom about it. There is something different about Jazlyn this year."
Lily TurnsPlenty, a sophomore, is another returning starter.
"She comes in and knows what to expect," Coach KillEagle said. "She is very much improved. She brings intense defense and chaos. She is disciplined."
He referred to TurnsPlenty and the KillEagle sisters as his assistant coaches on the court.
"They know how everything goes, so they are helping out our transfers from Harlem," Coach KillEagle said.
Dodson's transfers include Amara Johnson and freshmen Precious Stiffarm, Baylee Johnson, and Kashton Siers, all from Harlem.
"For me, it's exciting," Coach KillEagle said of gaining transfer students. "It's almost like they are noticing what we are trying to do with our program and if people want to be a part of it, I think that it's pretty cool."
Siers is the team's fifth starter.
"Kashy is very coachable and she has caught on real well to our defensive system," Coach KillEagle said. "For me as a coach, it's always defense, defense. We established our defensive system and she fit right into that role."
Dodson will host the Scobey Spartans on Friday, December 15, starting at 4 p.m. They will then host the North Country Mavericks on Saturday, December 16 starting at 5:30 p.m.
