Staff at the Bureau of Land Management's Malta Field Office welcomed a familiar face as their new field manager, officials at the BLM's North Central Montana District announced.
Kathy Tribby, born and raised in Malta, also spent 12 of her previous 29 years of federal service working in the BLM's Malta Field Office.
"I'm excited to return to serve in the community that raised me," said Tribby, who was the acting field manger there since July 2023. "My past experience and familiarity with land-management issues in the Hi-Line uniquely prepare me for leading the Malta Field Office team."
Previous, Tribby served as the Lewistown Field Office supervisory natural resource specialist, guiding the wildlife, forestry, recreation, archaeology, realty and recreation programs. When she joined the BLM in 2010, she first served as the outdoor recreation planner for the then-Hi-Line District, then as the Malta Field Office's wildlife biologist. Prior to working for BLM, she served 16 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Tribby graduated from the University of Montana with a bachelor's degree in wildlife biology.
"Kathy's broad professional experience, long-established relationships with local stakeholders and hometown ties to the community make her the perfect choice as our new Malta Field Office manager," said Kirsten Kaiser, BLM North Central Montana District manager. "Her proven leadership skills and collaborative approach to problem-solving will help position our Malta team for success in future land-management challenges and opportunities."
Tribby leads a dozen full-time staff positions, and typically an additional one to five seasonal employees, depending upon workloads. Together, they steward more than 1 million surface acres of BLM-administered lands and about 1.5 million subsurface acres in Phillips County, Montana.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America's public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations
