Malta Loses to Fairview in Regular Season Finale
The Malta M-ettes volleyball team will enter this weekend's 2B District tournament as the fourth seed with a 4-6 conference record.
The M-ettes were 4-10 this season, a year with many first year starters. Head Coach Tasha Hines is proud of how this team has grown together.
"You know, we came into the season knowing we didn't have hardly any varsity experience, so the first few weeks were just excitement for the new roles throughout the team," Coach Hines said. "As time went on, the girls have seen the areas we needed to grow in and the areas we need to execute confidently.
"We knew this would be a growing season, so now it's time to see what we've got, and we are excited!" Coach Hines continued. "I think they are going to surprise some teams, tournament season is a brand new season! They are such a coachable group, willing to try new ideas while keeping the foundational values there. They have high goals and are willing to do the work to get there! So like always, it's a great day to be an M-ette!
If the M-ettes want to play in the Northern B Divisional in the first weekend of November, they will need to place in the top four this weekend at the District 2B Tournament in Glasgow this weekend.
The M-ettes will open the district tournament on Thursday, October 26, against the Poplar Indians at 6 p.m.
Head-to-head, the M-ettes have won both matchups against Poplar. They defeated Poplar 3-1 in September and 3-0 a few weeks ago.
Malta ended the regular season with a 0-3 loss to Fairview, the tournament's second seed on Saturday, October 21. The scores were 16-25, 21-25, and 19-25.
Kendall Clausen had six of 21 team kills, 11 of 56 digs, and three of eight aces. Neva Jacobson had nine of 20 assists. Denvyr Tuss and Giona Lamb both had two blocks.
