North Country Picks up Three Wins

The North Country Mavericks volleyball team picked up a few wins last week, defeating Harlem in Harlem on Tuesday, Oct 10, and then Culbertson and MonDak in a double-header in Saco on Saturday, October 14.

The Mavericks are scheduled to play the Frazer Bearcubs on Tuesday, October 17, at 5 p.m. They will also play the Chinook Sugarbeeters in Whitewater on Wednesday, October 18, at 5 p.m.

This is the final weekend before the 2023 1C District Tournament in Plentywood, which is scheduled from Thursday, October 26 through Saturday, October 28.

In North Country’s win over Harlem, the scores were 25-21, 25-21, and 25-17.

“This match was a good rematch chance against a team that has grown a lot this season,” Mavericks’ Head Coach Charlene Wasson said. “This is also one of the few teams we play twice in our regular season. In fact, I believe they are the only team we see twice.”

She said that the Mavs’ play was far from perfect as the team had 11 serving errors throughout the game.

“Those are hard to give up but we continue to talk about the end of the season and how important serves will become in our tournament games,” Coach Wasson said. “I thought we did a good job of distributing our sets to our hitters and made some good plays overall. We won the match in three sets but the scores were closer than the first time we played back in early September.”

Game stats vs Harlem: Team Aces 12: Paige Wasson five, and Kendall Scheffelmear two. Team Kills 36: Teagan Erickson 13, P. Wasson 12, and Scheffelmear eight. Team Assists 32: Kennedy Simonson 25. Team Digs 27: T. Erickson six, and K. Simonson five. Team Blocks three: BaiLee McColly three.

In the team’s win over Culbertson, the scores were 25-10, 25-16, and 25-19.

“In the Culbertson match we were really rolling with controlled passing and our setters were getting the ball right where the hitters needed it,” Coach Wasson said.
