Mustangs Fall to Glasgow, to Host Conrad Friday

The Malta Mustangs football team fell 26-7 to the Glasgow Scotties last Friday, September 22, and are 1-3 so far this season.

The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Friday, September 29, as they host the Conrad Cowboys at Mustang Field. The night will also serve as the team's Senior Night. Seven seniors including Kyle Darrington, Colton Mears, Sebastian Best, Clay Hallenberg, Bow SaintLouis, Hunter Stolem and Mason Sjostrom will be honored.

"We have seven seniors that have given up a lot of personal sacrifices to help our team. Three of our seniors (Mason Sjostrom, Kyle Darrington and Colton Mears) have battled injuries most of the season, but their experience and leadership over the summer helped prepare the younger players that have had to step in and fill their role," Malta Head Coach Nick Oxarart said. "Sebastian Best, Clay Hallenberg, Bow SaintLouis and Hunter Stolem have all played a big role this season in leading our team through much adversity. We look forward to what they can help us accomplish for the rest of this season."

Conrad is 2-2 this season, and most recently defeated the Fairfield Eagles 13-6 in Conrad last Friday. They lost 77-0 to Florence Carlton the week prior.

"They bring a lot of momentum into this game and we are going to have to play mistake-free in order to have success against them," Coach Oxarart said. "They are a big and physical team and they play very aggressively. Their line is much larger than our line is. They have a nice balance of run and pass. Their quarterback, running backs, and wide receivers are all solid players. Most of their players played last year against us, so they bring back a lot of experience."

In their meeting last season, Malta won 49-6.

In Malta's loss to Glasgow, Malta had 333 yards of offense.

"We struggled again against Glasgow with too many turnovers and penalties," Coach Oxarart said. "Glasgow forced us into too many mistakes and they were able to capitalize on them. We got into the red zone a couple of times and came up without any points. We need to continue working on fixing our mistakes."
