One Nation, Under God
While it was no easy task, with the signature of the owners of KMMR Radio Station, Greg and Claude Kielb sold the business to the new owners, Rhei (RC) and Jo Tharp. The radio station will also have a new name, KMMR Mustang Radio.
Greg and Claude have dedicated 43 years of their life to providing "the best sound around" and the Tharps plan to continue that goal.
On August 31st the signatures were dry and fans, friends, staff, community members, and even friends from out of state gathered at the KMMR Mustang Radio station to wish both Kielbs and Tharps congratulations. The wind showed up and provided the closest thing to a wind tunnel to make the event less than calm and peaceful. Hot dogs, salad, and cupcakes were served; potato chips were playing hopscotch from plate to plate, however, those gathered were used to the weather.
Former Head Football Coach Scott King shared his thoughts and memories about the years he has spent recording for the "Coaches Corner" and shared that he equally enjoyed the "off the record discussions" between the two of them.
High School Principal Shawn Bleth added his comments and praise for the coverage of school events and sports. He presented Kielb with a bronze, "Stallion" by Pierre Jules Mene.
Kielb gave due credit to his wife, Claude, who for a good portion of their lives for the forty-some-years has been a weekend widow, especially on weekends involving two to five days travel for games and tournaments.
One of the things that KMMR has been known for is their contribution to the community with the KMMR Radiothons. They have supported and hosted fund drives for illnesses, accidents, and fundraising for the 4th of July fireworks. "We did it for the community."
He attributed the successful longevity of the station to his employees over the years.
They plan to remain in Malta, Greg said, "...this is home!" They do plan to do some traveling in the coming months to visit their son, Vance and family, and daughter, Roxie, and family. Their daughter, Valene, and family live in Malta. They are looking forward to making a trip in early 2024 when they will be going to meet and welcome their first great-grandchild.
The Tharp family has been living in Malta since 2015, Malta is Jo's home town. They have four children, she is the CEO of the Phillips County Health Clinic and Hospital.
Other than the addition of the word "Mustang" to the call/name letters, the Tharp's plan to continue with the great service on the hi-line.
RC said, "We are grateful for Greg and Claude for giving us the opportunity to continue the KMMR legacy and to the KMMR staff for staying by our side during our transition."
KMMR Mustang Radio was live for their first home football game the following day and look forward to sharing as many years as your connection to the community through the airwaves. Let the journey begin.
