Mavericks Win Volleyball Classic Title in Glendive

The North Country Lady Mavericks volleyball season started last weekend as the team was able to take on and defeat the Richey-Lambert Fusion last Friday, August 25, and then earn their first championship as winners of the 2023 Eastern Montana Invitational Volleyball Classic in Glendive the next day.

The Mavericks defeated Broadus in the Classic’s Championship game 2-1. The scores were 27-25, 20-25, and 15-8.

Paige Wasson had a team-leading eight kills and three aces. Kennedy Simonson had 10 aces. Teagan Erickson and BaiLee McColly each had six digs. Kendall Scheffelmear, Erickson, B. McColly, and CharLee McColly each had two blocks.

As a team, the Mavericks had 18 kills, 15 assists, 26 digs, eight blocks, and five aces.

In the semi-finals, the Lady Mavericks defeated Forsyth 2-1. The scores were 17-25, 28-26, and 15-11.

Erickson had 14 of 27 team kills. Wasson had 11 kills, nine of the team’s 23 digs and three of the team’s five aces. Simonson had 15 of 22 team assists, and Scheffelmear had two of five team blocks.

The Lady Mavericks went 2-0 in their first round win over Circle. The scores were 25-17 and 25-12.

Erickson had 12 of North Country’s 27 kills. Wasson and Scheffelmear each had two aces. Scheffelmear had seven of the team’s 28 digs. Simonson had 15 of 23 team assists and B. McColly had two of four team blocks.

The Lady Mavericks lost their opening pool play game against Broadus 0-2. The scores were 19-25 and 22-25.

They defeated Miles City’s JV team in the next pool play game 2-0. The scores were 25-15 and 25-23.

The Lady Mavericks won their final pool play match against Jordan 2-0. The scores were 25-12 and 25-8.

The Mavericks JV team saw some action in Malta, at the Malta Invitational on Saturday, August 26. They lost to Chinook’s JV 23-25, but then defeated Wolf Point 25-15.
