One Nation, Under God
The Malta M-ette Volleyball team saw their first action of the season as they hosted the Malta Invitational last Saturday, August 26, at the Malta High School Gymnasium.
The M-ettes went 1-1 in pool play, falling to the Fairview Warriors 0-2 in their 9 a.m. match to start things off. Malta bounced back in their second match at 10:30 a.m. and defeated Rocky Boy 2-0.
The PCN caught up with seniors Addison Ulrich, Elly Anderson, and Kataya KillEagle after pool play.
Ulrich was asked what went wrong for the team in their loss to Fairview, who ultimately won the tournament.
"I think that our confidence was really low," Ulrich said. "And they were just really strong hitters."
Ulrich was also asked about the team's win over Rocky Boy.
"We covered really well and we communicated," Ulrich said. "I think that we just played really well together as a team."
KillEagle was able to get a game-winning kill in the M-ettes first win over Rocky Boy.
"It felt great," KillEagle said. "I just need to get more confidence in my hitting."
Anderson was asked how the team could improve and see success in future games.
"I think that we just need to cover our hitters, keep our energy up and play as a team," Anderson said. "We need to fire each other up and forget about mistakes that we made in the last play."
Anderson is the Libero to start this season. She was asked about the responsibility of fielding more attacks.
"It is kind of nerve racking and there is a lot of pressure," Anderson said. "I just try to stay confident and do my best to get the ball to the setter and angle passes."
The M-ettes ultimately fell to the Poplar Indians in the first round of the tournament.
