Winners at the 4-H Horse Show held Saturday were: Senior Showmanship: Jeret Warren, Rebecca Smith and Marley Manoukian; Advanced Junior Showmanship: Aidan Wiese, Kari Koss and Charlee Rhodes; Beginning Junior Showmanship: Brett Wiebe, Kailey Crowder, Danie Rhodes, Spencer Gibbs and Sidney Meeks.
The family of Evelyn Mae Hendrickson extend an invitation to join them at Lippi’s Kitchen in Great Falls on July 28th to celebrate her 80th birthday. The reception will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Nine-year-old Victoria Kirby was flown to Spokane following an accident on July 2 near Conrad. Her mother, Samaria, is a librarian and junior high teacher in Dodson. Victoria’s grandfather, Robert Kirby, of Brady, was killed in the accident.
An ordinance designed to keep motor homes and campers from being parked on city streets for long periods of time, raises for employees and a septic tank issue occupied the Malta City Council agenda at its last meeting. Following a public hearing, the council voted 3-1 to approve the ordinance; Councilman Warren Abrahamson voted no.
The family of LeRoy and Marianne Costin were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by having a card and note shower.
Five former Malta Mustangs and two cheerleaders will participate in the 67th annual Montana East-West Shrine game on Saturday.
Charlee and Danie Rhodes and Aidan were heading “baa-aaack” to the Dodson Fair, ready to compete with their market lambs.
Amanda Pitts and Greg Ziegler plan to exchange wedding vows at Kaleeva Park in Roberts, MT. on August 24th.
The pre-concert band opening at the concert on Friday night of the county fair this year will be Barbed Wire. Joel Hill, who grew up in Whitewater is the drummer for the band.
Darrow Messerly must have seen a shark in the water! He swam and he swam his way into two first-place finishes, leading the Malta Swim Team in Lewistown last weekend. Tate Carney and Grant O’Brien both added first-place winnings to help the team place 3rd at the meet.

The Cottonwood Grazing Association was divided into 12 family corporations comprised of members and officers of the group. The Association owned 104,000 acres in northern Phillips County.
Shannon Stroh of North Dakota thanked the committees and alumni for the support shown for the Dodson All-Class Reunion. She mentioned not overlooking her husband for putting up with the long hours, phone bills and irritable attitude.
The children and grandchildren of David and Agnes Erickson extended an invitation to a reception honoring them on their 50th wedding anniversary on July 25th at the Sleeping Buffalo Barn.
The mother-daughter team of Loy and LeeAnn Pekovitch came away with the championship trophy at the Fuzesy Golf Tournament. Some of the other tournament winners were: Best Sports: Bill and Natalie Parker; Loudest on the Course: Alice Hofer and Rita Nordlund; and Oldest Couple: Craig and Janine Stiles.
Malta graduates Jonathon Green, Kirk Stiles, and Jeremy Otteson will all play in the 52nd annual East-West Shrine Football game on July 18th at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls.
Member of TOPS #418 “Queen for the Year” is Donna Newby. Marda Southwick is “Chapter Angel”. Division winners are Shirley Tribby, Sandy Koss, Marda Southwick and Sheila Simanton.
A persistent and destructive vandal had hit the city dumps for a third time. This time refuse truck driver, Guy Tremblay, had an encounter with him, being chased by him with the city Caterpillar parked at the dump. The vandal had destroyed a trailer that was on loan, Tremblay left the scene to call for help, and upon return the vandal had fled.

“66” Ranch Supply will only have the retail gas pumps open on FRIDAYS, starting July 13th. This is due to the shortage of gas.
Mr. and Mrs. George Green announce the engagement of their daughter, Janet, to Michael Kaufman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kaufman.
A son was born to Mrs. Richard Chartier of Whitewater, and a son was born to Mrs. Frank Bednarczyk of Malta.
Three students from Phillips County qualified for the national high school rodeo in Ogden Utah: Joan Robinson, Patti Sue Smith and Warren Bell of Dodson.
During Crazy Days at Valley Drug home permanents were on sale for twenty-five cents each…while they last.
Chris Wombold, a former resident of Malta, died on July 3rd in Great Falls.

July 15, 1948
An accident on Sunday evening resulted in bruises for Miss Donna Korb, a cut forehead for Harvey Mavencamp and bruises for Jack Woods. A car driven by Mavencamp crashed into the back end of a pickup owned by Louis Bibeau which had stalled on the highway about four miles west of town.
Herbert Spaller of Regina was re-elected president of the Phillips County Co-operative Marketing Association. Walt Campbell was selected to replace Joe Rose whose term has expired.

The first annual Farmers Picnic was being planned for the Trafton Park grounds. Attorney General Willington D. Rankin, I. D. O’Donnell, Irrigation Specialist, and Gerard DeWitt, president of the Phillips County Bureau, were to be speakers.
Leslie McCormick, a well-known Content rancher, drowned at the Beaver Creek bridge when he and his son stopped for a swim on their way to town. The boy was unable to aid his father. The creek was high due to heavy rains.
Fred L. Robinson, Phillips County Assessor, and Miss Celia Skorpen, Malta teacher, were married at Carpio, N.D. The bride’s brother-in-law, Rev. Peterson, performed the ceremony.

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dunbar had passed away.
Iver Johnson, rancher of Seven Mile Creek west of Malta, had gone to his old home in Norway to spend six months.
L. B. Mills of Saco sold 2,500 three and four-year-old wethers to J. B. Long at $3.40 for October delivery. B. D. Phillips sold 7,200 at the same price. The Phillips wool clip was estimated at 500,000 pounds and had been sold for 25 cents per pound.
