Mustang Basketball Camp will be held July 1-3 for boys 4th-8th grade. The camp will emphasize on defensive and offensive techniques, stations, contests and fun.
Angela Hebbelman, of Chinook, was treated for non-life threatening injuries following a motorcycle accident on Hwy 66 near mile marker 7. She encountered a recent overlay repair in a slide area and lost control.
The Phillips County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the death of a one-year-old child at his home in Malta. It was reported in a 911 call that the child had taken sleeping pills and was not breathing.
Michael McNamara, MS, FAACVPR was awarded the Stroke Champion Award. The award is reserved to recognize an individual’s
outstanding contribution to stroke education and/or the system of care in their community.
The Mitchell Ranch is celebrating 100 years and cake and coffee will be served at 3 P.M. Winston and Lucille will serve a BBQ/Potluck Supper at 6 P.M.
The City crew that sprays in the evenings, known as the Biter Fighters, are working to irradicate the pesky little blood suckers to make life easier to enjoy. They assure the public the spray used is “adulticide” and safe for humans.
The family of Lorraine Stuff invites family and friends to her 90th birthday celebration. The event is hosted at Stretch’s Pizza back room on July 13th at 2 P. M.
The Malta Swim Team took fourth in individual events at their own meet.
Virginia Koss will be honored at her 90th birthday party at the Hi-Line Retirement Center. Friends, neighbors and family are invited for cake and ice cream on July 3rd.

Dr. James Elliott announced to patients of his in the area, that he was retiring on July 1st. Dr. Elliott, MD is a provider in Havre, MT.
The six children of Bette Dyrdahl gathered in Helena to celebrate her 75th birthday. Her children are Gary, Larry, Cathy, Mary, Dan and Mike.
The Phillips County Medical Center announced that Thad Giblette had signed on as a provider. He is an RN and has just completed his nurse practitioner training in Utah. He, his wife Suzanne, and three children will move to Malta in August.
Four Malta residents were among the 843 students named to the spring honor roll at MSU-Billings. Achieving academic honors were Jesse Blunt, Julie Bruckner, Janelle McEwen and Melissa Stiles.
In honor of the 40th anniversary of their parents, the children of Wanda and Joe Reynolds invite guests to an open house on July 5th. The celebration is at the GN Boiler Room at 2 P. M.
Justice of the Peace Gayle Stahl found Joan Leonard guilty of disorderly conduct in a trial that took place on Feb. 18, 1998. She had filed an appeal to District Court, but recently dropped the appeal. Leonard had represented herself at the trial.
The U.S. Achievement Academy announced that Kelly Marshall of Saco has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Roll Award winner. Her name will appear in the Official Yearbook. She is the daughter of Dale and Sue Marshall.
New classes proposed in Malta High School include pottery, creative writing and novels, theatre and speech, computer programming, world history turning points, foreign foods, design, accounting II, advanced Algebra 1 for eighth graders and ecology.
Don Snell opened a new engine repair shop in town, using the garage at Mick’s Honda on Central Avenue, it will be called “Performance Plus.”
LaVohn Ellsworth, 16, of Saco, received severe burns over 75 percent of her body Thursday evening. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office. She was taken to the Burn Center in Utah.

Tracy Legg and Falinda Doucette attended a girls basketball camp in Willison, ND; Falinda received the free throw trophy and was selected for the all-star team.
Daniel Joseph Nicholson of Dodson was hospitalized after being badly shaken up and bruised in an auto accident early Sunday morning caused by loss of steering control on his pickup. The accident occurred at 3:30 a.m. about 3.4 miles east of Dodson on Hwy 2. He was headed west and driving down the west end of the railroad overpass when he lost control, the truck sideswiping an irrigation bridge sliding into the barrow pit, and rolling over completely.
Bruce John Boothe sustained scratches and bruises but was not seriously injured in an accident 8.6 miles north of the Junction of Hwy 2 and Wagner Road. He lost control of the car going round a curve and it went into the barrow pit and rolled over on its top, being extensively damaged.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brandt were honored on their 25th wedding anniversary at a reception at the Lutheran Church.
Dave LaFond has two buffalo cows and a bull; all whom have become quite used to him and will eat oil cake from his hand, however, he does use caution when around them.
Mr. and Mrs. Swen Holte announce the engagement of their daughter, Valerie, to Arne Lefdahl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lefdahl.
Robert Mayer is the new manager at Buttreys. From Harlem, he and his, wife, Janet, have two children, Lisa and Steve.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lang invite you to share in the joy of the marriage uniting their daughter Patricia to Ryle Simons. This union will take place at St. Mary’s Church at high noon on Saturday.
The Loring Lutheran Church was the scene of the afternoon wedding of Frances Anna Severide and Jack Motichka.
The wedding of Denice Jennings and John Field took place at the Lutheran Church in Malta. The ceremony took place on the afternoon of Saturday, June 10th.

“Duck the Draft” was the message from T-Sgt. George Hoynes who had returned from National Guard Encampment, for the purpose of signing up draftees, who wish to join the National Guard before it is too late. Any man between the age of 19 and 25 who is signed up in the National Guard before the Selective Service Bill is signed by the President will not be drafted. Any man signing up at the age of 18 will not be called when he reaches his 19th birthday. Hoynes will be at the National Guard room in the City Hall on Thursday and Friday, Dodson on Saturday forenoon and Saco in the afternoon for the same purpose.
Rita Maloney and John E. Lang were married at a nuptial mass on Monday morning at 9 a.m. by Rev. Fr. Joseph Crowley.
On Tuesday evening at 8 P. M. Miss Anna Nitz and Robert Lucht were united in marriage at a single ring ceremony, at the Saco Methodist Church by Rev. C. T. Wheaton.
Miss Kathleen Murdock and Roger Simonson of Whitewater, were married at the First Lutheran Church in Havre. Rev. Selmer Heen read the double-ring ceremony. Attendants were Milton J. Olson and Marjorie Murdock.

Twenty-five years ago, rain made the headlines. The total for the month was 7.64 inches, the heaviest in the history of the weather bureau at Havre with the exception of one year – that year was 1887 with 9.33 inches.
Harry Emonds, a mail carrier from Regina, reported that his trip from Malta following the big rain storm, took him 105 miles. He left the regular trail at the Hog Ranch at Phillips and had to detour by Dodson to reach Malta.
A marriage of the week was that of Edna Swanson and George W. Claypool. Another was the wedding of Delbert Norton and Dorothy Simser.
During a thunderstorm, lightning struck the old Bowdoin Bank building and destroyed the structure and two small store buildings adjoining. The fire called all the men in town out at 2 a. m.
The Red Cross had opened a restroom in the basement of the library. It was furnished with a cot, a child’s bed, table, and comfortable chairs.

June rains of 41 years ago were making news. A cloudburst had occurred in Malta. Hail preceded the rain and did considerable damage to windows and gardens in the village. Three-quarters of rain fell in less than half an hour. Milk River was up and country roads were terrible. Sheepmen were having difficulties completing shearing operations.
The program for the Fourth of July included trotting and running races, men’s, women’s, and children’s races, three-legged races, potato sack races, greased pole climbing and a greased pig contest. A ball game was to conclude the day’s program.
The Circle Diamond Cattle outfit received a train load of southern cattle. They were to be trailed to the Canadian range. The company has leased 36 townships across the line.
