One Nation, Under God
On June 16, Phillips County Prevention Specialist, Gina Lamb, collaborated with Malta Girl Scout Troops 3903 & 3995, and Phillips County Coalition for Healthy Choices to host the first annual Father/Daughter Dance in Malta!
The idea came about as an effort to promote strong relationships between fathers (male role models) and daughters, to increase the connections of the presence of a loving and supportive adult that provides our young girls with nurturing and security, and to promote positive self-perceptions.
Sixteen dressed-up dads brought in 23 beautiful young ladies for a night of dancing! Upon registration for this free event, the girls picked out a tiara for themselves and a bowtie for dad. They had the option to stop and color a paper tie for dad; write down some kind words on one of two banners that were up for this special night, "My daughter is awesome because...", "My dad rocks because..."; grab some cookies &/or lemonade from the snack bar provided by Girl Scouts, Malta Kiwanis & Jacy Stolem; dance to the tunes of Soul Notes with Izz (Izzie Hallenberg); and get their photo taken in front of the fun photo backdrop designed by Tessa Handley and Mercedes Simanton!
At their departure, father and daughter took home a mini polaroid of themselves as a memento of the evening, along with a goodie bag containing information on how to join Girl Scouts, sign up for summer club at Malta Kids Club, ParentingMT info, and a small toy. It was definitely a night to remember!
