They came in bright, shiny, polished and in their prime…and some were even older that those viewing them. As the 21st Annual First State Bank Car Show livened up, the spectators flocked to admire the years and experience that has gone into restoration of the classics and gems.
Not all the vehicles were antique; there were also classics, dragsters, trucks and even a 2023 Corvette…several of which was posted a note: “Unless you are naked, don’t sit on this car!”
Yes, they are the pride and joy, the dreams of spirited youngsters as well as those who value real works and end products.
This years’ Car Show winners were: People’s Choice Motorcycle Award was selected by voters at the affair, and winning this honor was Sam Owens. There was a tie for the People’s Choice Award for Car/Truck; trophies will be going to Rick Carnahan and Robert Wiese. Hailing from Missoula, MT, winning the Longest Distance Award was Mike Kaufman.
The coveted Darryl Seeley Memorial Pickup went to Rick Carnahan.
The Top Six entries selected were Dylan Bergos, Rick Carnahan, John Wilke, Von Holzhey, Dallas Waters and Digger Hanson.
There was a noted absence though…two old long-time supporters of the farming industry have passed away. The famous John Deere tractors usually brought for a “putt-putt” reminder of an era gone by the way side by Harvey Smith. Another JD die-hard, Cliff Johnson passed several years ago.
The Veterans Park was kept busy and full with vendors, tented salesmen offering chances on 50/50 tickets, burgers, cotton candy, candles and other wares.
The day was about as pleasant as one could ask for, there were no major fights or disturbances. The day and night went peaceful and a grateful community was pleased to celebrate the much needed moisture.
