The Dodson and Saco Track track teams were both represented at the 2023 Eastern C Divisional Track Meet in Lambert last Thursday, May 18.
The Panthers had two athletes punch their tickets to the State C Meet in Laurel this weekend, starting on Thursday, May 25, and concluding on Saturday, May 27.
Saco
The Saco Panthers were twelfth in the Mens’ meet with 10 points. Lustre won the meet with 87 points, Plentywood was second with 71 points, and Culbertson was third with 62.
The Lady Panthers were ninth with 20 points in the Women’s Meet. Plentywood won the Womens’ meet with 117.5 points. Scobey was second with 96 points and Savage was third with 82.
Saco Panther sophomore Blaine Downing won his first Eastern C Pole Vault title by being the first to clear 14-00, one inch short of his personal best. He defeated Scobey’s Ty Leischner, who also cleared 14-00. Downing and Leischner hold the highest marks heading into state, the two closest competitors having cleared 13-03.
Panther teammate Marshall Caves was fifteenth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.77 seconds.
Lady Panther junior Josie Brown qualified in three running events, taking second place in the 400 meter run with a time of one minute, and two seconds flat, third in the 200 with a time of 26.56 seconds, and third in the 100 with a time of 12.80.
Though she did not qualify for state, teammate Ireland Mears, a freshman, was tenth in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal best of 56.02. Mears was also twelfth in the 100 with a time of 14.39 seconds and thirteenth in the 200 with a time of 29.99.
Junior Abby Yeska was tenth in discus after setting a season’s best of 82-2, twelfth in javelin with a throw of 64-11, and thirteenth in shot put with a throw of 26-11.
Dodson
Dodson’s teams were led by Lady Coyote freshman Kylee Ball who was eighth in shot put with a throw of 29-8.25. Ball also had a throw of 80-05 in discus which earned her eleventh place.
The Coyotes relay teams both had personal bests. The long relay consisting of sophomore Mason LoneBear, freshman Lance Snow, freshman Sonny Cole, and eighth grader Forrest Bessman was ninth with a time of 4:33.16.
The short relay consisting of LoneBear, Cole, Bessman, and junior Sebastian Best was tenth with a time of 52.56.
Individually, Snow was tenth in the 3200 with a time of 14:33.04, thirteenth in the 1600 with a time of 5:55, and fourteenth in the 800 with a time of 2:46.36.
Best was eleventh in long jump with a leap of 18-6.5, twelfth in the 800 with a time of 2:33.42, and thirteenth in triple jump with a mark set at 35-10.
