Malta Teams Head to State; Bishop Third, Bergos Fourth at Divisionals

Ten Malta golfers participated in the B Division 1 Meet in Shelby, on Tuesday, May 9, and despite rain and hail, each golfer punched their ticket to State.

The 2023 State B Golf Meet will also take place in Shelby, starting on Monday, May 15, and concluding on Wednesday, May 17.

"I am very proud of all of their performances," Malta Head Coach Kate Webb said. "We went into it with some very specific goals in mind. Hit our fairways, hit our greens, keep our putts under three, and knew that if we made those goals happen, we were going to be sitting pretty good."

The M-ettes placed second as a team and went 138 over par. The home team Shelby Girls took first place going 111 over par.

The Mustangs placed third as a team going 102 over par. Glasgow won the event going 53 over par, and Cut Bank was second going 61 strokes over par.

The Mustangs were led by senior Kaden Bishop, who was fifth overall with a total of 85 or 13 over par.

"I shot 41 in the front and then going in the back it started raining and hailing that first hole," Bishop said. "I went double bogey, double bogey, and then I made a bogey after that. I started off pretty shaky and went five over on the first three holes."

The M-ettes were led by Kyann Kergos, who placed fourth in the girls meet with 100 strokes, 28 over par.

Brittney Sorlie placed sixth with a score of 107, 35 over par. Sidney Gibbs was ninth with a total of 109 strokes. Kennedy Koss was tenth with 115 strokes, and Kylie Bishop was thirteenth with 115.

Each M-ette scored low enough to be able to compete in the individual meet.

Though he will compete with the other Mustang golfers at state, Hunter Stolem just missed out on an individual spot at state, placing seventeenth with a total of 96 strokes or 24 over par.

Kellen Murray tied for twenty-fifth with 104 strokes, going 32 over par.

Camryn Mears was in a four way tie for twenty-seventh with 105 strokes (33 over par).

Trooper Stiles tied for thirty-first with 106 strokes.
