The Malta Track Teams competed in the District 2B meet last Saturday, May 13, in Glasgow.
Those that placed in the top six will be competing in those events at the Northern B Divisional meet in Great Falls on Saturday, May 20.
At the 2B District Meet, the M-ettes were second as a team in the women's meet with a total of 141 points. Glasgow won the event with 225 points, Poplar was third with 66 points, Wolf Point was fourth with 48, and Harlem was fifth with 31 points.
The Mustangs were third in the men's meet with 80 points. Glasgow won the meet with 234 points, Wolf Point was second with 135 points, Harlem was fourth with 39 points, and Poplar was fifth with 31 points.
M-ettes
M-ette Senior Tia Siewing won the second district shot put title in her career with a throw of 35-3.5. She was second in discus with a throw of 94-10.
Junior Addison Ulrich took second place in the 100 meter dash with a personal best of 13.63 seconds. She also qualified individually in long jump with a mark left at 14-2.5.
Ulrich was also a part of the short relay team, which took second place with a time of 54.84. Brooklyn Knowles, Neva Jacobson, and Allison Kunze were also a part of the team.
The long relay consisting of Knowles, Jacobson, Gracie Honey, and Karlie LaBrie took first place with a time of 4:31.67.
Honey, a junior, was third in the 400 with a time of 1:05.75 and third in the 800 with a time of 2:33.30.
Kunze, a senior, was second in the triple jump after landing at 32-4.5. She was also second in long jump with a season's best of 15-7.25. Kunze took fourth in high jump after clearing 4-2, and fourth in the 200 with a time of 29.08.
Freshman Denvyr Tuss was second in shot put with a personal best of 35-0.
Freshman Kendall Clausen was second in javelin with a personal best of 106-7.
"It feels pretty good that I can throw far as a freshman," Clausen said.
She was asked what was the key to her performance in javelin.
"I found a lucky quarter on the ground and I put it in my sock," Clausen said. "The key was to peirce the wind, throw far, and throw really hard."
Junior Giona Lamb qualified in all three throwing events. She was third in javelin with a personal best of 104-0, third in shot put with a throw of 32-6, and fifth in discus with a throw of 85-0.
She was asked to talk about her year so far.
"It's been a little bit bumpy because last week at Top Ten, I didn't throw very well, but at the beginning of the season, I did. Right now, I am getting back on track."
She was asked what it was like to compete beside several other throwers in practice.
"I think it's really hard but whenever we throw together, we look at each other's marks and try to throw past one another," Lamb said. "I think that it is really good for us to do that, together."
Knowles, a freshman, was third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.79 and fourth in javelin with a personal best of 97-10.
Senior Lauren Tuss was third in discus with a throw of 86-0 and sixth in shot put with a throw of 30-1.5.
Freshman Karlie LaBrie was fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:49.68. She also qualified in high jump with a fifth place finish and a personal best of 4-0.
Senior Madyson Bain qualified in discus and javelin, placing sixth in both events. She had a season's best of 86-1 in javelin and a throw of 82-9 in discus.
Mustangs
The Mustangs were led by junior Kyle Darrington who won the 200 with a personal best of 23.33 seconds. Darrington was second in the 100 and 400 events. He had a new personal best of 11.62 in the 100, and a time of 54.03 in the 400.
Junior Gavin Slade won javelin with a throw of 138-6. The throw was his last throw in the finals.
"I just made sure to warm up in this cold weather and not hurt myself," Slade said. "I had to stay stable on my feet because it is so muddy out here."
Slade was third in the 100 with a personal best of 11.65 seconds.
"I feel like the wind definitely helped all of us," Slade said of his 100 time.
He was fifth in the 200 with a time of 24.54 seconds, and sixth in shot put with a throw of 37-9.5.
Freshman TJ Siewing took second place in shot put with a personal record of 40-10.
"It feels pretty good being the youngest thrower out there and competing with the big kids," Siewing said. "It feels pretty solid."
He was asked what the key to his throw was.
"Keeping my head in the game, keeping it all one motion, and giving it all I had," Siewing said. "It really saved me."
The short relay team consisting of Dawson Hammond, Darrington, Rylee Brusse, and Slade was third with a time of 47.48.
Hammond, a freshman, was third in javelin with a throw of 124-1. Hammond was also fourth in the 400 with a time of 55.71, and fifth in the 200 with a personal best of 24.31.
Senior Draven Lageson took fourth place in shot put with a throw of 38-6.
Freshman Sonny Gray was fourth in triple jump with a personal best of 33-8.
The long relay consisting of Kael Young, Gray, Michael Mayer, and Kash Stiles was fifth in the long relay.
Young, a freshman, qualified in triple jump taking sixth place with a mark at 33-1.5.
