Malta Board Decides Against Special Levy Election

The Malta School Board decided not to hold a special mill levy election, hired four new teachers and a new head girls basketball coach, and authorized the purchase of new computers at their meeting last week. Supt. At April's meeting, Kris Kuehn recommended the board not call for a levy election on the traditional date in May because the state legislature was still working on an education funding bill. He left open the possibility the district might call a special election after the legislative uncertainty was resolved. "I don't know if we want to call an election or not," he said..."This is really a place to start a discussion."

Continued from last week, Mr. Swag's Court Shenanigans

Zortman being long on 44's and short on jails, the prisoner (Mr. Swag) was secured with leg irons and picketed in a vacant log cabin. During the evening a number of friends, including a Mr. Murray broke into the cabin but being unable to free Swag they provided him with enough whiskey to make him forget his troubles and stayed with him for a hilarious evening. The next morning Judge Baird sentenced Murray to 90 days and the two friends departed for the Fort Benton jail.
