Every Brilliant Thing Featured Locals Hoping to Help

Ryan Eggensperger held the audience’s attention Friday, May 5, evening at the High School Auditorium as “Every Brilliant Thing” brought to light the story of his own journey dealing with suicide. Ryan’s path dealing with the obstacles and outcome of suicide was personal. He shared that his mother had committed suicide. That’s about as close and personal as one can get. Almost.

The theater life of Ryan and his co-worker, Rosie Seitzauers bring talent and a venue which is easy to blend into other possibilities. Ryan presented the program to a listening and eager crowd on the beautiful spring evening.

Locals attending, such as Malta’s Art Lundstrom, were assigned roles on Ryan’s presentation; Art played Ryan’s son, who retorted a response of “why” to every statement that was asked of him. The blend of personality and character help establish a life-like setting and realistic atmosphere.

The story Ryan shared is one that at least three members of those in attendance have a personal understanding of…they have walked this road…personally. They knew the struggles, the emptiness, the heartbreak and the complete loss of reality from losing a loved one to the grasp of suicide.

Yet, they showed up; they were there to offer support and understanding to those who have not had to deal with it. Hopefully they never will. Support is what people are looking for in these situations. Taking time to listen, to care, and be there.

It takes time... You can give others life by giving your time. Be there.
