HS Track: Malta Fields Full Teams in Glasgow, Great Falls

The Malta Mustang and M-ette track teams traveled to Glasgow last Tuesday, April 25, for the Glasgow Northeast Montana Makeup Meet.

The Mustangs placed fifth out of 14 men's varsity teams with 40 points, and the M-ettes were eighth of 12 women's varsity teams with 23.5.

The Women's Meet was won by Plentywood who scored 113 points. Scobey was second with 98 points. Glasgow was third with a total of 81.5 points. Fairview was fourth with 49.75 points and Hinsdale was fifth with 33.75.

The Men's Meet was won by Lustre's Christian who had 110.5 points. Glasgow was second with 93 points. Wolf Point was third with 79 points and Plentywood was fourth with 55.5 points.

The meet was Malta's first together as a team, giving first year head coach Desiree Egger a good look at her teams.

"It was so nice to finally have our full team together," Coach Egger said. "Overall I thought that both the boys and girls teams were competitive. The weather was about as good as we could have asked for. Windy (to be expected), spirts of sunshine mixed with cloud coverage."

Despite the season being shortened by an elongated winter and poor track conditions, Coach Egger and the Malta teams have experienced great moments full of personal records.

"I am loving getting to watch each athlete hit PR's every meet, especially when we have had limited opportunities," Coach Egger said. "As a coaching staff we are so proud of these athletes for enduring practice in the gym and facing new challenges with fearlessness. Go Blue!"

Mustangs

The Mustangs were led by junior Gavin Slade who took second place in the 100 with a time of 12.17 seconds. He was also second in javelin with a new personal best of 147 feet, and 2 inches.

Slade was also a part of Malta's short relay (4X100) who took fourth place with a time of 47.26 seconds. The team also consisted of Kyle Darrington, Ivan Lefdahl, and Dawson Hammond.

Darrington, a junior, took second in the 400 with a time of 53.32 and sixth in the 100 with a time of 12.29.

The long relay (4x400) consisting of Sonny Grey, Michael Mayer, Kael Young, and Kash Stiles was fourth with a time of 4:28.83.

TJ Siewing was fourth in shot put with a personal best of 39-7.

Hammond was sixth in javelin with a throw of 125-5.

M-ettes

The M-ettes were led by senior Tia Siewing, who was third in shot put with a throw of 32-11. She was also fifth in discus with a throw of 89-2.

Junior Giona Lamb was third in javelin with a throw of 101-1. She was also sixth in discus with a throw of 88-11.

Allison Kunze took fifth place in the 200 with a time of 29.98 and fifth in long jump with a total of 14.8.

The short relay (4X100) team consisting of Addison Ulrich, Brooklyn Knowles, Gracie Honey, and Kunze was fifth with a time of 55.77.

Kendall Clausen was sixth in javelin with a throw of 95-4.

Knowles was sixth in the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 53.86.

Denvyr Tuss was sixth in shot put with a throw of 32-3.5.

The M-ettes nearly reached the podium in other events. One M-ette saw action on the field for the first time since 2021; senior Lauren Tuss, who took seventh in discus with a throw of 88-5.5.

Ulrich, a junior, was seventh in the 100 with a time of 14.60 and seventh in the 200 with a time of 31.04.

The Mustangs and M-ettes also attended the Mustang Invitational in Great Falls last Saturday. The following are the complete results of the Glasgow Northeast Montana Makeup Meet and Mustang Invitational meets.
