Willard Mortenson (July 28, 1929 - April 19, 2023)

Willard Mortenson, 93, passed away on April 19, 2023, at Valley View Home in Glasgow, Montana. A service will be held at Dodson Lutheran Church in Dodson, Montana on May 12, 2023, at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Willard Waldo Mortenson was born July 28, 1929, in Malta, Montana to Otto and Olga Mortenson. He was the oldest of three children. He attended elementary school at a country school near his home north of Dodson and graduated from Dodson High School. His father passed away when Willard was 15 years old, and it was at that time that he started farming with his mother and siblings. He married Dolores Friskop on June 25, 1966, in DeLamere, North Dakota. Willard farmed with his brother, Edmund, and later with his nephew, Paul, until he was 90 years old. When a fall led to a broken hip, his farming days were done, and he spent his remaining time at Valley View Home. He was a lifelong member of the Dodson Lutheran Church.

Willard is survived by his daughter, Diana Mattfeldt (Jon), brother Edmund Mortenson, sister Edna Oldfield, grandchildren Vanessa, Blake, and Ashley, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Willard was preceded in death by his wife Dolores, his parents, sister-in-law Gloria Mortenson, and brother-in-law Richard (Dick) Oldfield.
