One Nation, Under God
With the weather warming up ever so slightly, my family has decided to head north. Only for a day.
I do not know what I expect to see in Swift Current, Sask., Canada. I know that throughout her childhood, my wife has been there a few times.
We have talked about several things that we will see up there, but only one thing really stuck out to me; Chinese Food!
Chinese food is a cuisine that I loved growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, but during my college years I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed Chinese so much that I enjoyed it once or twice a weekend.
The place was called Chin’s Wok in Florissant, MO. It was located only a couple of blocks away from my college campus.
My favorite meal was the combination plate of General Tso chicken and broccoli with fried rice. To top things off, I would get an order of the crab rangoons, which is still one of my favorite appetizers of all time.
I don’t know what provoked me to try an order of crab rangoon for the first time. I don’t typically enjoy fish themed appetizers other than hush puppies. Once that first rangoon hit my mouth, I knew that I had discovered one of the most delicious things that I had ever tasted.
A crab rangoon or crab wonton is made with crab meat, cream cheese, onion, and garlic. But Chin’s Wok’s rangoons were on a different level. I would often eat two and then save the other two for later in the day.
I do not know what Canada has to offer, but I hope that we enjoy ourselves, and that maybe, just maybe there will be a crab rangoon or two in my immediate future.
Just for giggles, I searched for Chin’s Wok online. I noticed two things. First off, my favorite combination plate of General Tso’s Chicken with Fried Rice is still very reasonably priced at $8.75 during their lunch special time.
The second thing that I noticed is that there is a coupon for four free crab rangoons for orders of $15.
I don’t plan on moving anywhere. I love it here. But if I did pack up the family to move, it would be to St. Louis, so I could get some goons. #goonlife.
