The Montana Department of Transportation shared plans to repave 11 miles of highway just north of the Missouri River and south into Fergus County. The purpose of the project is to extend the life of the existing surface while preserving and maintaining the existing highway.
Ranchers with the problem of buffalo wandering off the reservation are in court battles following damage by the bison. The matter before the court would address having a hunting season for controlling the bison who wander off the reservation onto private land.
Supt. Dollyann Willcutt will retire for the second time from Dodson. Her replacement was announced as Deborah Combes of Grass Range.
Drought-stricken ranchers were searching for hay in various ways. Locally the extension was pairing up those with extra hay for sale with those in need.
In honor of Pat Murray’s 60th birthday friends and family are invited to attend a pig roast on Saturday, April 27th at the Lucky Bullet from 5 p.m. to ? Music starts at 8 p.m.
Senior Kendall Denham had a stellar career as a point guard in his high school career. He led Malta to two state titles and was selected to the Montana-Wyoming All-Star Game in Billings in June.
Malta M-ettes placed second with 105 points behind Class A Sidney at the Glasgow track and field meet. The Mustangs racked up just 10 points in their debut.
Seth and Jonathan Siewing, Gavin and Henry Gwinn, Oren Mackay, Dre Oshio, Auston Stevens, and Spencer Gibbs battled it out at the Montana Little Guys Wrestling Tournament in Great Falls. The coaches were Thayne Mackay, Pat Gibbs, Alan Guderjahn, and Shawn Stevens.
Coach Terry Lindgren in a letter to the editor regarding the school not renewing his contract stated, “the Administration and School Board can dismiss any coach without reason.” He stated a lack of communication and support from both the board and administration; the situation left him very bitter and very resentful.

Five-year-old Tom VanHoudt was the winner in a drawing at the Denver Western Stock Show and was selected to ride a sheep in the mutton busting. The trophy he won was taller than he is. He is the son of Kathy and Paul VanHoudt, and the grandson of Everall and Marion Holman and Bernedina VanHould of Malta.
Skyla Sisco, former Lady Griz and M-ette standout has signed a player contract to play with the WNBA. A graduate of MHS, she averaged 11.7 points and 6.2 assists per game.
Tyrell and Timothy Faw, of Bozeman, with their parents Tye and Geneta announce the arrival of Taylor. He weighed 8 lbs one ounce; his maternal grandparents are Ron and Diana Martinez and his maternal great-grandparents are George and Violet Green of Malta.
Eight teams from across the hi-line will be competing in the Hi-Line Invitational Tournament (HIT) to be held in Malta; a three-point shootout will be held between the second and third games.

Gary Nordlund and Mike Ereaux won championships at the Montana Association of AAU freestyle wrestling in Great Falls. Gary, wrestling at 140 pounds in the 11-12-year-old group, won all four matches. Mike won both his matches with pins; he wrestled in the 13-15-year-old group at 190 pounds.
Colleen DePuydt of Saco and Cindy Sanquins of Turner will represent District 3 in the CowBelles Beef Cookoff. This will be held at the high school home ec room, it is open to the public at 2 pm following judging.
Chief Petty Officer Jim Buckholz reported for duty aboard the USS Kittyhawk at Hunters Point Naval Ship Yard in San Francisco. A 1959 graduate of Dodson High School he joined the Navy in October of 1959.
Two local boys placed in the Optimist Club Tri Star held in Great Falls. Joe Berg won a trophy and was first in the 11-year-old group, and Karl Mavencamp was third in the 13-year age group. The contest attracted 150 boys ages eight to thirteen.
Robbie McCoy presented her junior recital at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCoy and siblings, Margie, Kathy, Jimmy, and Tom attending. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Leib (her former piano teacher), and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Lucht. She had just received her acceptance into the music program at the University of Hawaii in the field of music.
The Montana Highway Patrol reported several accidents; the first involved Ernest Thompson and his wife who were making a right turn and in his wide swing, Hollis Southwick thought he was making a left turn and attempted to pass them and collided with her car into the right side of their car. No one was injured.
Another accident occurred at 3 am when a car driven by Barbie Vetter was hit from the rear by a car driven by Dale Simanton; both vehicles suffered slight damage.
Lorraine Hellie, 13, of Whitewater, won first in the regional spelling bee at Glendive last week. Jody Menge, 12, of Saco placed ninth.

School board election returns are being received at the County Superintendent Ada Anderson’s office. There is an unusually big vote cast in most districts and many districts ran special levies.
A lawsuit in the amount of $10,646 was filed in Great Falls against Thomas Lenihan on the estate of James Lenihan by Mattie Kramer, as the result of a pedestrian-automobile accident. Thomas is the administrator of the estate of James who was the driver in an accident that allegedly broke the hip of Mrs. Kramer and caused other injuries when she was crossing Central Avenue in Malta. James was charged with negligent driving and failure to yield the right of way; he passed away in February of 1947.
The men entertained the women of the Woman’s Country Club at a dance in Loring on March 27. An old-time dance furnished the evening’s fun and lunch was served at midnight.
Before the dance a quick meeting was held; it was decided to donate two sets of sheets to the hospital and donate to the cancer fund.
Members of the Buster Deo Post VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Malta Women’s Club were invited to a Pan-American Day in Cut Bank. A program on Boy’s State and a choir will be part of the program.

Al Peters of the Homestake Oil Company and Sandy Pray were injured in an automobile accident near Bowdoin. Peters was taken to Havre to the hospital.
The Westland Oil Company purchased the Front Street Service Station owned and operated by the Moore Motor Company. C. G. King is the new manager.
G. C. Liskium and Al Winkler were elected to the school board with no opposition. A five-mill levy was also approved.

The region was in the 12th month of severe drought. The Milk River was so low it was barely flowing; there was no snow in the Bears Paw Mountain or the Little Rockies.
The stork left a son at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Killduff.
Henry Baeth sold his wool clips for 20 cents.
