M-ettes Have 22 Competitors This Season
The Malta M-etteTrack Team welcomes a total of 22 athletes this season, a couple of which nearly reached the podium at state last spring.
In addition to first year Head Coach Desiree Egger, the Malta teams will be led by several familiar faces this season. Shyla Clausen will coach long and triple jumps, Jennifer Rickett wil coach hurdles and high jump, Ryan Wilson will coach sprints, Andy Schell will coach throws, and Pat Sargent will coach pole vault.
"These coaches we have are really the backbone of the whole program," Coach Egger said. "They have been great to work with thus far and I look forward to the rest of the season."
This season's team consists of seniors Madyson Bain, Isabelle Hallenberg, Allison Kunze, Tia Siewing, and Lauren Tuss. The junior class includes Gracie Honey, Giona Lamb, Addison Ulrich, and Caitlyn Wilson. Megan Morser is the lone sophomore. The freshman class consists of MJ Beaman, Sadie Branham, Kendall Clausen, Neva Jacobson, Brooklyn Knowles, Karlie LaBrie, Kenzie LaBrie, Miquela Red Eagle, Alyssa Scott, Lola Snell, and Denvyr Tuss.
In addition to the slow start to track season given the snow outside, the team has had other events happening, but Coach Egger said that the seniors have been doing a good job leading.
"We've had varying numbers at practice due to things like HIT, Senior Classic and State FFA," Coach Egger said. "The senior leaders have really stepped up and helped lead. I was pleased to see that the upper class men were eager to get to work, they are good about making sure they maintain balance during the week getting to every event. This leadership allows the younger classmen to follow and see such good examples."
When asked about goals this year, Coach Egger said that they haven't talked about team goals.
"However, each coach within their specialized events have talked with the athletes about their goals," Coach Egger said. "We are expecting some big results this year."
Several M-ettes competed at the State B meet last season including Addison Ulrich, Gracie Honey, and Allison Kunze, each of which ran on both the short relay and long relay teams. Madyson Bain was seventh in discus with a throw of 104-09. Giona Lamb was seventh in shot put with a throw of 34-8. Tia Siewing was eighth in Shot Put with a throw of 34-5.25. Gracie Honey competed in the 800.
The team will be without state placer Addy Anderson, who took fourth in the high jump and state performer Madison Williamson; both will be golfing this season. Kira Beck transferred to Glasgow. State placers Skylie Lefdahl and Justine Lamb both graduated in 2022.
