The Dodson Lady Coyotes retain a young squad this season but welcomes back two seniors in their 2022-23 campaign.
Lady Coyote Head Coach Clayton KillEagle was asked how things have been after a couple of weeks of practice.
"At the beginning of our season it has been a little inconsistent with numbers for practice due to overlapping JR High season, but once we got rolling the girls have been very focused," Coach KillEagle said.
The team welcomes back many from last season including Kataya KillEagle, who was the fifth athlete named to the 2022 District 3C All-Conference List. According to Coach KillEagle, Kataya has been leading a positive minded group.
"Kataya, our fourth year starting junior, has attacked this year with a positive and optimistic outlook for our season," Coach KillEagle said. "Although we were short in numbers when playing in our first tournament with six players, the girls seem to be in very good spirits and ready to put in the work."
Coach KillEagle said that this year's starting line up have consisted of Kataya, sophomores Jaymiee Stiffarm and Jamie Campbell, and our two freshman Jazlyn KillEagle and Lilyian Turns Plenty.
Soon, the team will welcome back Lindsey Fetter and Emma Cole, who have been busy with a school event.
Jazlyn KillEagle started for the Lady Coyotes last season.
"She has been working more on her scoring abilities rather than just facilitating, which will help out to spread the defense," Coach KillEagle said.
Stiffarm also started for the Lady Coyotes in the postseason, but Coach KillEagle has noticed an improvement in her skill.
Campbell is a first year starter for Dodson.
"Jamie brings length to our defense, but she can also hit a key shot from the corner when we need her to," Coach KillEagle said.
Turnsplenty has shown the ability to be the team's best defender.
"Lyllian is one of our main players for defense taking on the best opposing offensive players," Coach KillEagle said. "She is also one of our main scorers.
"On the bench always ready to go in is our lone eighth grader Trinity Crawford, she is a first year player in the sport but her work ethic is unmatched," Coach KillEagle continued.
Though the team lost their first two games in the Scobey Tournament last weekend to kick off the season, Coach KillEagle is optimistic that the team will continue to grow and win games.
"Our goal this season is to showcase our hard work and discipline," Coach KillEagle said. "I told the girls, we are going to win games and that ultimately is the main goal, but for us the key elements is working hard and discipline."
Dodson fell 66-28 to Froid-Medicine Lake last Friday, December 9, in Scobey.
Kataya KillEagle led the Lady Coyotes with 24 points. Jazlyn Killeagle had four points.
The Lady Coyotes lost 44-26 to the Fairview Warriors on Saturday, December 10.
K. KillEagle scored 14 points. J. KillEagle had six points, Turnsplenty had three points, Campbell had two points and Stiffarm had one point.
