OH…the places you will see
Wink and Terri Cole returned Sunday after visiting Zach and Sarah Cole at Ft. Polk, La. They were able to visit the French Quarters and other historical sites and landmarks.
Small in number, big in hopes
Coached by Wes KillEagle, the Coyotes prepare for their first match. Returning starters are Jimmy Martin and Clinton Daniels, who are helping out the lone senior, Levi Jones.
Elected to serve
Newly elected state representative, Malta native Mike Lang, has received his new assignments for the new legislature, which convenes Jan. 7th in Helena. He was named to the Business and Labor Committee. He will also serve on the Federal Regulations, Energy and Telecommunications Committee, and the Agriculture Commerce Committee.
With the assistance of the newly formed Search and Rescue unit and volunteers, a 13-year-old youth from Great Falls was located and found safe. Game Warden Dan Ritchey and Greg Sandness were able to locate the youth hours after he was declared missing. The youth was found in the Missouri River Breaks country near what is known as Kill Woman Coulee.
Mustangs make it as Bobcats
Kazz and Kruiz Siewing were shown with three other players in the Cat-Griz Game. The Cats went on to win the game.
Young but determined
Saco/Whitewater Panthers will lose eight players to graduation and were basically starting over. Returning was one senior, Thyus Olsen, and it would definitely be a rebuilding year.
The community theatre group was looking forward to presenting “A Cricket County Christmas Wedding” with Elmer Cricket set to marry Glenda Mae…on Christmas eve…in Grandma Taylor’s Diner…in the middle of the nativity set. The community theatre group is organized by Heather Cook.

Adventures on the mat
Five state qualifiers are returning to begin practice with an opener Friday night in Sidney. Hitting the mats will be Kris LaBrie, Ryan LaBrie, Roy Simanton, Ryan Salsbery, and Lance Anderson. All set for action, the team is ready for competition.
It’s what’s for supper
Steve Simanton was shown displaying his moose with a 40-inch rack that he had bagged while hunting with Vic Lefdahl. The venture included three trips over nine days of hunting to make it a successful venture, over in Whitefish country.
Adding to the economy!
During the Santa Shopping Night promotion by the Chamber, the names of five youths were drawn for $10 each in Chamber Bucks for children under 17 years of age. Winners were: Preston Welch, Kienan Bibeau, Casey Erickson, Nathan Carlson, and Cole Wilke.
Let there be light
City Mayor Byron Ereaux was looking to shed some light on the new high school lighting situation, which will need to be in place in the not-too-distant future. There are four options available and the council will review and vote on a decision later.
New member
The Wilson Ranch of Malta, is the newest member of the American Angus Association, reports Dick Spader, executive vice-president of the national organization. With headquarters in St. Joseph, Mo., the organization is the largest beef cattle industry registry in the world.
Requests help!
Montana Senator Conrad Burns, in a letter to the Surface Transportation Board, requested that Amtrack implement a pilot program to offer express service on its Empire Builder route across Montana. Other services in the area are limited or nonexistent.

A baby sister, Hailey Adeline D’Lynn, joins the family of Chad and Michelle Nicholson. Brother Brandon welcomes the addition, as do grandparents Elmer Nelson, Colleen Nelson, Doris Nicholson, and Joe and Debbie Nicholson.

Garden Club busy in the winter
The Dirt Daubers Garden Club held its annual Christmas party at the home of Madelyn Anderson. Gifts were exchanged and secret pals were revealed. Annual reports were given; Bertha Cebulski gave her yearly report and thanked everyone for the wonderful help for the flower show.
Upcoming Colts
The eighth-grade boys’ basketball team is starring Tom Martin, Mike Ereaux, Vance Kaufman, Earl Miller, Pete Newton, Tony Tams, Terry Tams, Pat Score, Dean Pearson, Dexter Henry, Brian Green, Jim Nelson, Tim Bruckner Ross Christofferson, Mike Flansaas, Phillip Snell, Tracie Eklund, and Tom Losleben. Their game against Havre ended with a victory of 55-36.
In the good ol’ days
Ken’s Thriftway was advertising tv dinners for 53 cents, butter at 73 cents a pound, 10 pounds of red potatoes at 65 cents a pound, and lettuce for 29 cents each. Buttrey Food Stores were having a sale of white potatoes for 59 cents a bag and an eight-pound bag of oranges for 98 cents.
Good comeback!
Interviewed for the Blue and White Courier about the Mustang game, Coach Ryan was asked about the 61-41 loss to Plentywood, “Did the boys have any trouble shooting against the taller boys?”
“No,” Coach replied, “we just had trouble hitting the basket!”
Calling it like it is
An ad was placed for the book, “Dreams, Dust and Depression,” which was available from Mrs. Glenn Bruckner. The book, written by her father, Phillip S. Long, was available for $6.95.
Watch out for ICE!
Local Highway Patrol investigated two accidents on Saturday. Paul Christenot, of Billings, was driving a National Guard car when he hit a snow drift and went out of control; neither he nor his two passengers were injured. The other accident involved a pickup driven by Bruce Boothe, which went into the borrow pit and rolled over on its top. He was not injured.

Right from Santa’s Toyland
Big dolls, little dolls. Sleeping eye dolls, real hair dolls, dolls with eyelashes, teenage dolls. Baby dolls, dolls that can cry. Soft squeezable dolls. One can find them all at the Coast-to-Coast Store in Malta.
Where’s the fire?
The Malta Fire Department was called out Wednesday afternoon to extinguish a fire at the back alley of the Meadow Valley Creamery. A garbage burner had set fire to a building owned by Mrs. May Cavanaugh. Damage was confined to the structure.
Up we go!
The Morris Flying Service of Helena will start a GI training school in Malta, with both ex-servicemen and civilians being eligible to enroll. The course of instruction will be under the direction of Ronald Fields, who had been with the Morris Flying Service for a number of years. Mr. Fields will move his family to Malta.
Rink being prepared for ice experts
If the plans of Ray Harwood and Lou Perry work out according to schedule, Malta will have a well-lighted and well-surfaced skating rink in the near future. The high school athletic field and the city have furnished two sections of hose for flooding. Perry and Harwood have graded the field and if they can keep the public off the rink until a good surface has been obtained it should prove to be one of the most popular places in the city.
New hospital on delay
The Phillips County Hospital Association learned Tuesday that the proposed new building has been delayed due to insufficient funds. Senator Fred L. Robinson expects to go to Helena in a few days to confer with federal officials on a plan to construct the building with government financial assistance.

George Pabst won high prize; Carl Green, low; Mrs. Jack Korsbeck, women’s high; Mrs. George Pabst, and women’s low; were given at the last card party given by the Friendly Neighbors Club. Mrs. Cletus won a door prize.

At the Gamble’s Store one can catch a heckuva deal – 36-inch sleds are $3.79; 45-inch ones are $4.79 and $5.89. The 54 inchers are $6.89.

Appointment fills vacancy
Clarence Costner, deputy county treasurer under R. L. Campbell, was appointed to fill the vacancy created by Campbell. Campbell is to become undersheriff at the first of the year. Treasurer-elect Dave Dutro would take over on March 1 of the following year.
Was it worth it?
Leroy Fox was sent to the state prison on a grand larceny charge involving a load of wheat. Fox had attempted to break jail the night before his sentence was imposed.
Earl O’Brien and William Vitt paid fines of $150 each on gambling charges. A. J. Fox was sentenced to two to four years of a first-degree assault charge.
