Editor’s Note: Due to the Post Office being closed we didn’t receive the WW News until Wednesday, Nov. 16, and we had already sent the paper to the printer.

Nov. 16: Greetings from the North Pole! Early Merry Christmas! Whitewater has about 4 inches of snow. It is so cold, last night, it was below zero! Winter started early. However, it will warm up and melt the snow as dry as the earth is.

How about the election? The Democrats did well, I’m glad.

Congratulations to the Whitewater Penguins/Mavericks volleyball team going to state in Bozeman.

Get well wishes to Dallas Green and all who are sick.

Here in Whitewater huge trucks with enormous loads of hay go by almost daily. If they travel by night, the trucks are lit up like a Christmas tree. Now that it has snowed the cattle eat hay.

There was an accident with a gas truck on the highway between Glasgow and Hinsdale. Drive carefully, no matter where you go. Most roads are icy now in Phillips County.

Late greetings to all Veterans. Veterans Day was November 11.

Thanksgiving Day is fast approaching. The price of turkeys is up as well as most groceries.

Mom (Martha Austin) made the world’s best homemade stuffing dressing from scratch. Ella Austin made delicious homemade mincemeat pie. Now many items of food are store-bought.

Don’t eat too much!

Nov. 23: Once again there are horrible shootings. We need more gun control.

There was a Bingo party benefit for Kyler Venable of Miles City. It was at North 40 Café. A soup supper was served.

There was Turkey Bingo at the Whitewater school. Lunch and pie were served. Several people won turkeys, hams, or prizes. Bingo is fun!

Here in Whitewater, we have about 6 inches of snow. It is very cold; it was 20 below a few nights ago. Dress warm if you must go out.

Lu Besel went to Big Fork for Thanksgiving. Several people are traveling for turkey day.

Note: The North 40 Café will be closed Thursday through Sunday.

The Christmas season is now here. Most people shop on the internet or in a city. When I grew up, we either made gifts or ordered from Sears catalog. One year there was a storm and gifts did not arrive until January. So, we cut the pictures from the catalog and hung paper gifts on the tree. Times change.

We always had a big Christmas program. One year, I was supposed to recite the “Night Before Christmas”, it’s long.

The last Border Patrol man went to Florida. Good luck to this Whitewater family.

There were three huge cattle trucks by the Whitewater Café. We heard the Hammond ranch (like others) rounded up their cattle from the summer range, to go home to their winter pasture.

There have also been many loads of hay going by with huge bales. When I grew up, there were small square bales. My sister Janet and I would lift these bales.

In this cold weather it’s nice to make homemade soup or stew.

Dress warm!

Helen A.
