One Nation, Under God

Malta Wrestling Club in Williston

Twelve teams competed in the H.L. Pederson Middle School Wrestling Tournament. Teams competing were Alexander, ND, Circle, Dickinson, ND, Glasgow, Glendive, Malta, Minot, ND, Poplar, Sidney, Watford City, ND, Williston, ND, and Wolf Point. Most brackets had four wrestlers in each bracket and they all got three matches.

Malta had three wrestlers competing in the 6th grade division. Colby Wright (65-68 lb) was 1-2 and received 3rd place. Colby won by pin, lost 13-3 and lost a tight match by a 6-5 decision. Beckett Squires (74-80 lb) was 1-2 on the day and was 3rd place. Beckett started the day with a 5-2 decision, then lost the last two matches by pin. Braxton Egger (75-85 lb) was also 1-2 and received 3rd place. Braxton lost two matches by pin but had victory with a: 31-second pin that earned him the Quick Pin Award for the week.

Four Malta wrestlers competed in the 7th and 8th grade division. Lane Spencer (106-121 lb) competed in the 7 & 8 A division. He was 1-2 on the day and 3rd place. Lane lost two matches by pin and won by a 5-2 decision. This particular weight class was filled with highly skilled wrestlers. TJ Nelson (240-268 lb) competed in the 7&8 A division. TJ was 1-1 and received 2nd place. TJ lost his first match by pin but came back to get off the bottom position to pin his next opponent. Silas Young (98-105lb) competed in the 7 & 8 B division. Silas continues to be on a roll from last week, by pinning his two opponents with a 2-0 record. His last match was an injury default. Silas' continued improvement demands that he be put into tougher brackets from here on out. Steeler Blunt (118-122lb) competed in the 7 & 8 B division. Steeler was 2-1 and received 2nd place. Steeler won his first match by pin and then had two matches that both earned him Most Exciting Match, or in this case, Matches. Steeler was behind by a large margin and came back to lose by 9-8 in his second match. There was an unfortunate missed near-fall call by the young referee that cost Steeler the match, but it was a great effort and exciting match. Steeler was behind by another large margin in his last match and came back to pin his last opponent in the 3rd period. Steeler is the Wrestler of the Week for the Williston Tournament.

The last tournament before Thanksgiving for the Malta Jr High Wrestlers will be the Lewistown Meet on Tuesday, Nov 15.
