One Nation, Under God
Malta welcomed Supreme Court Candidate, James Brown, of Dillon, to town on Friday. The native of Montana stated he is enjoying meeting the people of our great state and is putting on plenty of miles and windshield time to make his candidacy known.
Jim stated he is a voice for small businesses and agriculture, two areas that not all of the candidates running for the office are interested in. His travels have taken him to the backroads of the Treasure State, and the campaign is winding down. This excursion has taken him to the wheat and cattle country of eastern Montana, then along the highways to Malta and stops within each area.
"The reception of the people has been wonderful....amazing!" stated Jim. "I am focused on preserving the way of Montana."
Jim is Chairman of the Montana Public Service Commission and discussed his work to obtain funding to build a new wool lab at Montana State University and in working with the U.S. Department of Interior to secure funding for two grizzly bear specialists to help manage grizzly bear-cattle conflicts in Montana. As Chairman of the PSC, Brown has been credited with restoring balance and credibility to the Commission.
He believes the BLM erred in their ruling on bison and grazing; and has provided comments opposing the issue.
Jim has experience on a variety of matters and issues; he is a member of the Leadership Montana program, Montana Wool Growers Association, Montana Stockgrowers Association, Montana Historical Society, the University of Montana Alumni Association, Montana Bar Association, and the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as a board member of the Montana Council on Economic Education. Jim serves as Executive Director of Montana Funeral Directors.
"I have been humbled by the wide support from Montanans who have asked me to run for, and to represent, our shared Montana values on the Supreme Court." He is facing opposition from the incumbent and another candidate for the office, neither of which has an interest in the agriculture and small business entities.
"This race is one of the most important races that are on the ballots, which nobody knows about," Jim stated. He is "striving to protect and defend the liberties, freedoms, and livelihoods of every Montanan." His intent is to restore faith in the rule of the law. He stated he is a strong believer in voter I.D., he visited about the voter issue in the Dodson town mayor election earlier this year.
Jim was the guest speaker at a reception at the GN following his interview with the PCN. There he addressed the concerns of locals who share his view and beliefs; he fielded questions from constituents with valid input. After his visit with the crowd ended, he again hit the highways to make his candidacy known across the state he works hard for. The Supreme Court position is non-partisan.
