Bergos Competes

Kaden Bergos had competed in Memphis, TN, against Junior Dragsters from across the US and Canada for the Summit Super Series World Final Championship. He competed against 15 others, and though he didn’t bring home a trophy, “the experience was priceless.”

Trackster at State

Hailey Nicholson placed 38th out of 115 runners at the State Cross Country Meet.

Playoff Bound

Mustang Coach Scott King was headed to State playoff games for the 24th time. The Mustangs had finished off their regular season with a 43 drubbing of Wolf Point last Wednesday.

All-State Musician

Malta senior, Garrett Giblette, was selected to participate in the All-State Band during Montana Music Educator’s Convention in Great Falls. He is the son of Thad and Suzanne Giblette.

M-ette Harriers

The M-ette cross country team hurdled together at the Class B race at the State meet in Helena. Runners included Rebecca Smith, Marley Manoukian, Meghan Johnson, Hailey Nicholson, and Josie LaFond.

Rancher Featured

Southern Phillips County rancher, Greg Oxarart, of OX Land and Livestock, was featured in an issue of a recently released book of the Montana Stock Growers Association. The book is entitled, “Big Sky Boots: Working Seasons of a Montana Cowboy.”

REACH’ing Out

Members of the REACH Camp were shown sporting the new scrub tops and crocs they received through a grant from Croc Corp.; they were: Kelsey Kuehn, Jayla Graham, Mikalya Farrah, Danielle Lett, Avery Wiese, Caitlin Chase, Vanessa Mitchell, Riley Abrahamson, Violet Lewis, Kayla Suddeth, Chelsea Mavencamp, Reid Robinson, Raven Bear, Samantha Werk, Wozak Chandler, Kimberly Ashworth, Caitlin Henry, and Janessa Henry.

Recovering on the Sidelines

Mustangs were healing from injuries: Ryan Salsbery (knee), Jonothan Green (shoulder), and Jesse Benson (sprained back muscle). Kirk Stiles was needing 25 passing yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark.

Donation Received

Phillips County hospital administrator, Larry Putnam, received a donation of $1,000 from the Deaconess Billings Clinic Health Systems to go toward the Health Care Fundraiser in progress.

Sentence Handed Down

Richard Hofer was sentenced to 5-year’s probation in addition to $220 (restitution plus, court costs) stemming from charges of theft earlier in the year. At the time, he was employed at the Philips County Veterinarian Clinic.

Officers Installed

The Malta Kiwanis Club installed new officers: Ernest Becker, Secretary; and Ann Motichka as president.

Two Sentenced

Kelly Tennant was sentenced to eight years in the Montana Women’s Prison in Billings for her part in a theft in Saco earlier this year. Her accomplice, Larry C. Smith, received a deferred imposition of six years.

Consolation of Vets

DVM’s Jim Curtis, Lisa Ritchey, and Anne Johnson pooled their experience of 50+ years and formed Consolidated Veterinary Services.

French’s Featured

Featured as a local business were craftsmen Roger and Leann French, as French’s Leather.

Landusky Holds History Fair

50 area students participated in the third annual History Fair. Judges for the event were Gene Peigneux, Penny Fitzpatrick, Carol Kienenberger, Kevin Ryan, Terri McKeon and Ken Ulrich. The event was held at Landusky.

Meet the O’Brien’s

Sheila Moos and Dan O’Brien were married in Great Falls, they honeymooned in the Caribbean. They will make their home in Malta, where Dan is the Deputy County Attorney.

Junk Cars Collected

The city council reached an agreement with George Lee Jones to provide a place for junked vehicles; this is for the Malta area only. Outside the area, people are to contact Don Wilkes and Bair’s Service Station.

1926 Reunion

The M.HS. Class of 1926 held their reunion, attending were classmates that still reside in Malta: Dorothy Seymour Schuler, Izetta Fergeson Ahlert, Evelyn Heiser Town, and Lochial Edwards.

Class of 1931 Re-unites

Members of the 1931 graduating class from M.H.S. showed up in numbers for a successful celebration. Malta residents attending were Clifford Strand, Doris Beavers Rummel, Forrest Kessler, Irma Siers Hanson, and Lucille Southwick Watson.

LaRock-Johnson Funeral

Mrs. Silvia LaRock Johnson died at the age of 91. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Ramay (Emily) Hould, and grandchildren, Mrs. Gordon (Shan) Dalen of Farmington, NM, and Jerome Hould of Wagner. Great-grandchildren Mrs. John McKeon, of Missoula, and Jeff Hould of Sheridan, WY, attended the services.

Top Sellers

At the Exotics North Sale, the top selling bred Limousin was consigned by Iven Blatter; the top-selling Maine-Anjou calf was consigned by Dick Pancake.

FHA District Meeting

Superintendent James Nordlund and student body president, Patti Sue Smith, were set to welcome the Future Homemakers of America to the District meeting. Gail Blunt is the District vice president.

Hides Collected

The B.P.O.E. No. 1922, of Glasgow, was collecting deer, elk and cow hides at the VFW. “As Long As There Is A Veteran In The Hospital, Let’s Not Forget Them” was their message.

Johnson-Hould Wed

Mrs. Doris Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Denver Hould extended an invitation to the wedding of their children, Karen and Harold.

Ulrich’s Welcome a Son

A son, Jason Dale, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ulrich of Great Falls. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Ruud and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ulrich, all of Malta.

Hereford Breeders Sale

Seventeen 4-H club bay beeves sold for a total of $6,438 at the Northeastern Montana Hereford Breeders Association sale. Wayne Jacob’s 955-pound beef brought 42.5 cents per pound for a check of $405.87. Other sellers and prices were: Hazel Simpson (40 cents/lb., $432), Francis Jacob (33 cents/lb. $311.18), and Dwayne Simanton (40 cents/lb., $400.00).

Death of Toddler

No funeral services had been set, as of yet, for Ollen Woods, 18-month-old son of Mrs. Anna Wood of Dodson. He died several days after hospitalization.

American Legion Activities

The possibility of a Golden Glove boxing team being organized was discussed at the American Legion on Monday evening. A committee was set up to work on the development of a cemetery plot for the burial of WWll veterans; they will meet with the VFW and make plans for the newly designated plot set aside for the purpose. Whist was played when the business meeting ended.

Youth Steer Sales

Johnny Hasler had a 970-pound steer which was purchased at 35 cents a pound for $339.50; Larry Simpson’’s 1,230-pound steer sold for 40 cents a pound for $492.00.

Dedication

Nearly 100 people attended the dedication service at the VFW Camp at Landusky. Music was provided by Mrs. Clarence Flesche, and a duet was provided by Robert and Joyce Flesche.

Scotties Host Mustangs

Glasgow defeated Malta by a score of 44 to 6 on the Scottie home field.

Wheat Production

Having already handed 150,000 bushels of wheat, the Farmer’s elevator had 4,000 on the ground. At the Imperial elevator, manager B. P. Bushnell, stated the annex was starting to settle onto its foundation and threatened to fall onto the GN tracks.

Couples Wed

Halvor Benson and Regina Primeau were married, and Mrs. Rosa Palmer and Henry Holmes were wed.

Timber Theft

Someone had been cutting timber on land owned by J.S. Morton; he was offering a $50 reward for the identity of the culprit.

Final Proof

Napoleon Langlois, Albert Tetrault, and James Finneran made final proofs on desert land entries.

Freight Bound South

Thirty teams left Malta with a big shipment of freight for Landusky. Supplies of lumber, potatoes, cabbage, and beer loaded the freight wagons to capacity.
