The North Country Lady Mavericks Volleyball team bounced back last week defeating the Frazer Bearcubs on Thursday, October 6, and Brockton Warriors on Friday, October 7, both in three sets.
“These two matches were geared towards staying focused when the play is erratic or slowed down compared to what we are used to playing,” Mavericks head Coach Charlene Wasson said. “We played our varsity lineups in the first two sets and had our JV lineup take the third set.”
The Mavericks will have their hands full this week as they face three teams this weekend and early next week. North Country is set to face the Harlem Wildcats on Thursday, October 13, in Whitewater, at 5 p.m. They will then go to Grenora to face the MonDak Thunder on Friday, October 14, at 6 p.m. The last game of the week will be at Culbertson, as the Mavericks take on the Cowgirls on Saturday, October 15, at noon. North Country is scheduled to face the Nashua Porcupines on Tuesday, October 18, at 5 p.m. in Saco.
In North Country’s win over Frazer, Kennedy Simonson led the charge with 12 aces and 12 assists, a double-double. The scores were NC 25 F 4, NC 25 F 5, and NC 25 F 11.
Paige Wasson had seven kills. Kendall Scheffelmear had six kills. Mattea MColly and Lylith Bear each had three kills. Scheffelmear had two digs.
The scores in North Country’s win over Brockton were NC 25 B 6, NC 25 B 6, and NC 25 B 5.
Wasson, Scheffelmear, and CharLee McColly each had four kills. Berkley Hillman had three kills and five assists. Simonson had 14 assists. Scheffelmear had two blocks. Scheffelmear, McColly, Simonson, and Bear each had three blocks.
“We worked on some serve-receive lineups we started implementing this week but we really didn't have a chance to play the ball back after we served. We had to be prepared for a quick return,” Coach Wasson said. “We have two weeks left before our district tournament in Plentywood so we are really just working on fixing some very tiny errors and adjusting to get what we would like to use in the postseason tournaments.”
