A-B-C Aides Needed
Malta School was facing increased enrollment in the grade school; kindergarten had increased such, to require an aide in both classes.
M-ettes Lose to Scotties, Take Wildcats in Three
M-ette volleyball results against Glasgow showed the leaders as Kills: Jayla Graham, 7; Blocks: Darby Schye, 5; Digs: Caitlyn Chase, 18; Assists: and Courtney Henry, 15. Malta lost in five to the plaid Scotties, 15-25, 25-19, 14-25, 25-20 12-15. They defeated Harlem 25-13, 25-17, and 25-17 and Courtney Henry added 25 of 28 Assists.

Hailey Nicholson finished 7th in the field of cross-country runners at the Harlem Invitational.
Sewing Up a Storm
Marda Southwick had donated a beautiful quilted wall hanging for the upcoming Health Care Fund Raiser.
Grazing Knowledge Shared
Fifty-five participants in the September South Phillips County Grazing Tour listened attentively while Wildlife Researcher Matt Ocko explained how well-managed livestock grazing benefits wildlife, native plants, and local economics. He was assisted by Dale Veseth of the Ranchers Stewardship Alliance and Charlie Messerly of the Nature Conservancy.
The Faces of the Future
The bright smiley faces of young athletes Sydney Gibbs (1st), Samantha Mitchell (2nd), Kolbe Murray (1st), and Jonathan Siewing (2nd) with their medals won at the Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. Samme Gibbs was displaying the medal won by Sophie Stiles in her absence.
Say No to Bullying
Two classes at the elementary school showed “incredible unity by every student wearing orange to help end bullying”. The teachers of those classes were Mrs. Barb Swingen and Mrs. Heidi Lulloff.
Close Down the Season With Wins
The 8th-grade girls (basketball team) ended their season with first place at the Havre Tournament. Members of the round ball team were Mariah Green; Raleigh Hunter, Eva Harms, DeeDee Johannesen, Shay Garfield, Sophie Stiles, Julia Meisdalen, Jada Nicholson, and Sarah Ware.

Malta band and choir members Katie Veseth, Angie Roberts, and Megan Parker would represent MHS at the All-State Band competition.
Graduate Serves Our Country
Army National Guard Pfc. Darin Hanson graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Ft. Sill, Lawton, Okla. The training included competition in basic military and Advanced Individual Training (AIT).
Crowned to Reign
Senior Ryan Salsbery and Mykel Ost were voted King and Queen by the Malta High students for homecoming festivities.
Heads Are Back in the Game
Saco snapped a four-game losing streak with a solid 56-35 victory over Hinsdale last Saturday on the Panther court. Kelly Marshall, back off the injured list, scored 24 points.
Victory Is Sweet
The pigskin handlers (Mustangs) cleared their second major hurdle to repeat as 2B champions with a 22-14 homecoming over the Glasgow Scotties.
“Red” Is Hot Under the Collar
John Hamilton, 20, Oilmont, MT., faced felony charges as well as underage drinking charges after setting a red ’89 Pontiac on fire. The car belonged to Roger “Red” Petersen. He was sitting in the local Iron Bar motel (jail) on a $10,000 bond. Hamilton was arrested when the sheriff’s deputies were called to a disturbance – Hamilton was being beaten by his friends for setting fire to the car.
Pursued His Dream
Following his belief of “if you have a dream and keep working on it, you can make it happen,” Dan Matthews opened his Insight Sound, in Loveland, CO. Dan is a 1971 graduate of Malta High School.

There Might Be a Few Changes
The Malta High School Classes of 1921-1925 gathered for a reunion, with about 25 traveling home to see classmates; while 11 graduates from the MHS Class of 1928 gathered, as well. Ten grads from 1930 were in attendance for the event.
Adored At Adeline’s
“Don’t be a stuffed shirt – wear one!” Adeline’s World was offering a wide section of cotton prints in shirts and stuffed jeans.

Any interested members of the Malta High School Class of 1963 were invited to an organizational meeting at the home of Mrs. Dennis Lotton.
Returning Home To Nest
Eugene (Gene) Peigneux was united in marriage to Nancy Orcutt of Fort Collins, CO. They were wed at the First United Presbyterian Church and planned to make their home in Malta.
Flying High
RUSSAERO had a new Chief Flight Instructor, Kenny Cebulski. Rates for lessons were $7.50 in your plane or $19.50 in Russaero planes. Kenny had completed two years at Missoula Vo-Tech in Aviation Technology.
Hi Ho Hi Ho – With Pledges We Will Go
Key Clubbers Steve Cox, Jim Molloy, Tim Long, Mike Cole, Jim Tavary, Ed Cerkovnik, Chip Young, Todd Smith, Doug Goodheart, Tim Kamla, Dan Lundstrom, Doug Paulson, Butch Loney, Mike Haugen and Butch Larcombe collected pledges and walked 29 miles from the Sleeping Buffalo to Malta. The walk was for the March of Dimes. They were sent down the road with a hearty breakfast of pancakes and ham, prepared by Ernie Gilbertson and Clarence Beyer.

You Can’t Fool Everyone
A survey of women attending a meeting to protest deceptive packaging revealed the following: 15% tinted their hair, 38% wore wigs; 89% wore rouge; 98% wore lipstick, 25% wore eyeshadow; 22% wore false eyelashes; 93% wore nail polish and 100% voted in favor of any kind of false packaging.

All federal, state and county offices, schools and Malta businesses will be closed next Monday in observation of Veteran’s Day. Advertisers and contributors are asked to have their copy in early. *I still haven’t figured out how one newspaper could change county, state and federal holidays! Veteran’s Day remains on Nov. 11th each year, I do believe.

Reserves to Serve
Eight Phillips County members of the Officers Reserve Corps are affected by a recent order assigning them to duty with the Regional Composite Group, with headquarters in Glasgow. County officers assigned are: Capt. George Cameron, Whitewater; Col. Raymond Lewis, Dodson; Capt. Norman Larum, Zortman; and Major William Dove, Capt. Oscar Guttormson, Capt. George Hould, 1st Lt. Gordon Peters, 1st Lt. A.S. Whicomb, Jr., all of Malta.
Prizes Galore
Prizes were announced for the Big Guessing Contest. Two $39.50 table model radios, two $15 Hudson Bay blankets and two $10 fountain pens would be awarded to those entering the contest to guess the population of Malta and Greater Malta.
Selected to Serve
James Larcombe of Malta was selected for membership on the Shattuck School Firing Squad. Fifteen were chosen, with three of them from Montana. The firing squad participates in military funerals for the reinternment of returned World War II dead.
Robbery Investigated
Undersheriff Pete Kaufman investigated the robbery at the Saco Drug Store Tuesday night, which occurred Monday night. Some good fingerprint impressions were obtained. The store was broken into and an estimated $160 in cash, some checks and some jewelry were stolen.
Soldier Killed
A cable from the War Department has been received by Mrs. Lee Hicks of Sheridan, WY, informing her of the death of her husband, Capt. Lee Hicks. Capt. Hicks was born in Malta on May 1, 1921. Besides his widow, Edith (Moss) he leaves behind a son, age 5, and two daughters, aged four and one year old.

Accidents Do Happen
The Phillips County Oil and Gas Company was reported to have struck a flow of oil at 1100 feet in their well near Cree Crossing. A huge flow of water was also struck. The gas accidentally ignited and the fire was still blazing.

John Huneke, a dairy farmer south of Malta, was arrested in Glasgow on a charge of selling mortgaged property.
