“Some Day My Bricks Will Lay”
Members of the Malta High School Student Council recently spent a day with Principal Kelly Taylor, cleaning bricks salvaged from the fire of Dec. 24, 1995. The bricks would be used to construct some type of entrance sign, or memorial sign at the site of the school.
Nicholson Heads Alpha Mu State
Doris M. Allen-Nicholson was installed as state president of the Alpha Mu State of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Coyotes Overtake the Mustangs
The Shelby Coyotes handed the Mustangs their second setback of the season, with a close 15-14 win at Mustang field Friday night. Ed Cerkovnik came back with a sterling punt return that covered 50 yards to put Malta on the scoreboard before half; the point after failed and Shelby lead 7-6. Jim Molloy scored when he picked off a Shelby pass and dashed 82 yards. Later, Chip Young would stop the team for a two point safety, however, the Mustangs fell short 15-14.
Malta Athletic Club Supports Youth
Malta Athletic Club President, Tom Bedwell, was shown with $450 cash, which was donated to the Northern Montana Youth Ranch; the funds would go toward a basketball court.

They’re Movin’ On Up
The top three placers in each age bracket of Punt, Pass and Kick contest would be moving on to Great Falls for zone competition. They were: 8 yr. olds: Kenneth Lang, Lee Henderson, Timothy Nelson; 9 yr. olds: Darren Demarais, Adrian Doucette, Joseph Fox. 10 yr. olds: Del Stiles, Martin Jansen, Larry Nordlund; 11 year olds: Joe Berg, Laurin Salsbery, Mark Halvorson; and 12 yr. olds: Gregory Nordlund, Vance Kaufman and Dirk Henry.
He Shot Himself a Big One
Randy Skinner bagged a four-point whitetail along the Milk River. The buck weighed close to 200 pounds, was killed with one arrow from a 56-pound bow, through the lungs at a distance of 25 yards.
Forth Coming Marriage
Mr. and Mrs. Ray McMullan, of Whitewater, announced the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn, to Roy Taylor of Malta. A December wedding is planned.

Sherman Doucette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Doucette, of Wagner, who is with the army of occupation in Tokyo, has been advanced to technician fourth grade. This is Sherman’s third advancement within a few months.

A campaign, started on National Guard Day, was under way to enlist 88,888 new enlistments by the end of the contest date, which is in two months. Capt. Howard McCandless, Commander of Malta’s Cannon Company of the 163rd Infantry, said the local has already recruited five new men already and expected to secure many more before the campaign ends.
Dance the Night Away
The Annual dance will be held at the Loring Community Hall. It is sponsored by the Loring Women’s Club, with music you’ll like. Proceeds used for welfare work.

Long Took It Long
“Bun” Lodges’s high school Mustangs kicked up their heels quite briskly against Poplar last Friday night and when the dust had settled the count was 40 for the Blue and White to 20 for the Indians. The visitors were dealt a body blow on the first play when Deb Long took the Poplar kickoff and ripped off 95 yards for a touchdown.
No Sneakin’ Allowed
Mr. Lesley Long stressed very strongly that there will not be a senior sneak day next spring with cars as no advisor would take the responsibility for such an excursion. He said that every year at least one student was killed in Montana of their sneak days with cars and he did not want that to happen to any of our seniors.

They Didn’t Even See It Coming!
A freight wreck, just west of Malta, had tied up traffic. An eastbound freight train crashed into the rear end of another freight, which had been stopped just west of the bridge. The crew of the parked freight was eating supper in town, when the crash occurred. The engineer and fireman of the eastbound train jumped and avoided injury. Five cars were completely demolished and several were derailed.
A “Classy” Bunch
Classes in Malta High School had elected officers for the year. Lochiel Edwards was president and Violet Veseth was secretary of the freshman class. Elmer Hendrickson was treasurer of the sophomore class. Cecil Bigwood was president of the junior class and Frank Neibaur was vice president of the senior class.

The citizens of Malta had been asked to donate money for the purchase of suits for the new football team.

Even Back Then, Votes Are Questioned
Although 364 voters were registered in Malta for the general election, the editor of the Enterprise said about 50 names should be removed, estimating that about 200 votes would be cast in Malta. The voting list of 364 contains the names of 11 men who are still voting at Malta or in Phillips County. They are James Austin, W.P Craig, George DeFlyer, William Dunbar, Charles Hales, Henry Kuhr, Joe LaFond, Harry Mason, Percy O’Riley, H.G. Robinson and John Survant.
