Melvin Lee "Pete" Nelson, 79, of Moore, died Monday, September 19, 2022, of natural causes at Valle
Vista in Lewistown. Pete was born on February 8, 1943, to Archie and Alta (Thomas) Nelson. He
attended Trout Creek School until his 8th-grade year and went to high school in Moore, graduating in
1961. After graduation, he was drafted by the army and served for two years while stationed in Alaska.
Pete met LaVaun Fewer in 1973 at Eddies Corner in Moore, they were married in November of that
year. Pete and LaVaun spent a year living in Lewistown before moving to Moore in 1974. Pete spent his
working years farming his land, driving school bus, delivering mail, and driving for the Amish. He liked
to spend his free time studying model trains, reading, and completing logic puzzles.
Pete is survived by sons Theodore Nelson of Moore, MT, Eric (Sarah) Nelson of Belgrade, MT, Troy
Nelson of Phoenix, AZ; brothers Donald (JoAn) Nelson of Moore, MT, and Melton "Butch" Nelson of
Laurel, MT; sister Joyce Turner of Hobson, MT; grandchildren Rebekah and Aiden; mother-in-law
Ginny of Malta, MT, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife LaVaun of 48 years, son Bradley, parents, and siblings Connie,
Clayton, Glenn, Gary, and Barbara.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22nd, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel.
Services will be held on Friday, September 23rd, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with burial to
follow in the Moore Cemetery in Moore, Montana. Friends are asked to make memorials to the charity
of their choice and they may be left with the Cloyd Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be
