Four Junior High runners will also compete in middle school meets this season
The Dodson High School Cross Country Team consists of a pair of athletes that are young, but have plenty of experience in high school sports.
This season, sophomore Mason LoneBear is the only Coyote returning to Cross Country. He will be joined by freshman Jazlyn Flansburg KillEagle who competed in the sport during junior. Head Coach Tianna Bloomer hopes that as the season carries on others may join the team.
"Mason LoneBear is our leader," Coach Bloomer said. "We are hoping to have a couple more join this week. Mason did make state last year and has qualified this fall at the Wolf Point meet."
LoneBear had a time of 23:43 in the Wolf Point Invitational, a meet held on Friday, August 26.
Though Flansburg KillEagle hasn't run a race in a while, there is plenty of optimism in her competing.
"She hasn't ran cross country since she was in 6th grade," Coach Bloomer said. "Running appears to be natural to her and we are excited to see her race in her first 3.1 this weekend at Poplar."
Coach Bloomer also said that the two high school runners push each other.
Coach Bloomer is again joined by Assistant Coach Pat Ditmar.
"Pat is very encouraging and helpful with them all," Coach Bloomer said.
The duo coaches the high school and junior high runners. The Junior High runners include Ian Healy, KJ Fetter, Emmitt LoneBear, and JaLana Gone.
Coach Bloomer talked about each athlete individually.
Ian Healy- Grade 7– Returning from last year. He is a natural runner who is quite speedy. Plans to improve every race from here on out.
KJ Fetter- Grade 4- returning from last year. He and Ian like to race and they take turns coming first or second. He is excited to go back to Scobey as he liked that course through the "old town"
Emmit LoneBear- Grade 3– Dedicated to the sport. He goes out with no complaints and runs his race. He hangs up there with the older kids and doesn't let it get him down.
JaLana Gone- Grade 6- new the sport this year. She had a good race in Wolf Point. She plans on improving her time at every race and practicing her pacing and her time to kick.
Coach Bloomer was asked if the athletes were looking forward to any race in particular and she mentioned the Scobey Meet.
"They really enjoyed the meet in Scobey's old town last year and are very excited that it will be happening again," Coach Bloomer Said. "Mason is glad that State is in Missoula again because now he is familiar with the course and knows how to approach it differently this fall."
