One Nation, Under God
Marriage is about trust. And let’s just say that I had issues with that the other day.
Last Wednesday, (August 17) was our tenth anniversary, and my wife and I agreed to not buy anything for each other, for the first time in our relationship.
I make it a point not to forgot our special day so that I don’t end up like those television husbands that come home empty-handed.
Every year, we would say not to buy each other any gifts, but this year, we actually did it. Well. Kind of.
We did not buy the typical “present” for each other, but we did apply for passports, which is a pricey and complicated thing.
While I did build houses in Mexico many years back, and the Bahamas, I have never needed a passport for travel.
The plan is to go to Sweden to visit family next year. The more immediate plan is to get me to see Canada for the first time.
I have been here for ten years and I have not seen Canada or the Northern Lights.
In a roundabout way, our no gift truce, might have afforded us one of the best gifts that we’ve given ourselves.
I love our country, but sometimes the drama is exhausting. I don’t know what Canada is like, but I could only hope that I can go places without Trump or Biden flags. To each their own, but I picture Canada as a place of peace and tranquility, unbothered by our constant left vs. right nonsense.
I picture a land of maple syrup filled with moose, eagles, and for some reason, Royal Canadian Mounted Police; everywhere.
Thankfully, I am in the process of seeing what things look like on the other side of the border.
Relax. I will be back. I love it here in America. Even with our flaws, I would rather live here than anywhere else.
