One Nation, Under God
Last Saturday, August 20, roughly 400 customers stepped into the northeast door of the Villa Theatre building to welcome Coffee Central, Malta's newest coffee shop to the community for its grand opening.
"It was crazy," said Coffee Central owner Kelsie Harms. "If Tessa (Handley, her sister-in-law) wasn't here to help me, I would have been crying in the corner. She ran the till, I ran the coffee, and it was great!"
Harms, the daughter of Mark and Donna Handley, and wife of Noah Harms, is a 2011 graduate of Malta High School.
Harms also has had plenty of experience as a barista, be-it 10 years ago at 3-Sisters, a former hot stop for coffee and beverages.
Most recently, Harms was a stay-at-home mom.
"I decided that I needed to change it up a little, so I am going back to being a barista," Harms said.
Though it may be self-explanatory, Harms was asked about the name of her coffee shop.
"We are on Central and we are serving coffee, so it is perfect," Harms said.
Among the most ordered drinks were Caramel Macchiatos, and White Mochas, the latter of which is Harms' favorite.
Coffee Central introduced a new social media campaign on their first Monday morning, called "Man-Crush Monday."
Man-Crush Monday gives the shop a chance to play cupid for the community's most eligible bachelors.
First up was Houston Demarais, a family friend. His drink of choice was the Toasted Marshmallow Mocha.
"Man-Crush Monday Specials," Harms said. "If you guys have any eligible bachelors that you want to get set up."
Hours of operation for Coffee Central are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Customers can call or text their orders in to 406-301-1661. Coffee Central is located at 1 2nd Street West Central Ave, in Malta.
