Malta Merchants were gearing up for their annual Crazy Days, to include vendors on Front Street downtown. Events on the weekend would include push lawn mower races.
Local Youth Plays for East Team in Annual Shriners Game
Jace Anderson, of Whitewater, playing for the East Team, had a successful game playing in the East-West Shriners Game in Great Falls.
Swim Team Qualifies Thirty-one Swimmers for State
Nineteen swimmers qualified in all three events they swam in, and thirty-one qualified for the State Meet next week. Brett Amestoy, who broke pool records a number of times this year, did it again this weekend. On Saturday he beat the pool record in Roundup and on Sunday he beat his own pool record.
The Men’s 13-14 200 Medley Relay team of Cole Brown, Reid Veit, Tyson Carney, and Cru Darrah, beat the pool record in Roundup.
High Winds Cause Damage
All Seasons Roofing was in town repairing and replacing shingles at the High School after a recent storm caused extensive damage.

School Board Okays Packages
Local teachers and certified staff will see a raise of approximately $175 per month in their salary.
Ice Cream Contest Winners
Placing first, second and third in the homemade ice cream contest were Carol Smith, Walda Hungerford and Jan Kirkwood.
Cowboy Laid to Rest
Dodson cowboy, Art Warren, was laid to rest; outriders paying tribute were Bruce Warren, Katie Warren, Paul Warren, Skip Cole, Leona Kienenberger, Alberta Fox, Dean Kienenberger, Dick Schwartz, Julia Cebulski, Ginger Knox, Lorena James, J-Bird James, and John Chinadle.
Linemen Place Second
Big Flat Electric’s line crew placed second at the Montana Lineman competition south of Great Falls. The Journeyman team consisted of Bob Johnson, Jim Fauth, Ross Hasler and Darren Demarais.
Tollefson Wins State KC Competition
Malta Knights of Columbus announced Malta freshman-to-be R.J. Tollefson had recently won the KC Statewide Free Throw contest; his trophy was received this week. He competed in the 14-year-old boys division. R.J. is the son of Rocky and Karen Tollefson of Malta.
Koss on Active Roster
Former Malta and University of Montana basketball star Greta Koss is now a full-time Starzz. Koss was promoted from the developmental squad to the active squad for the Utah Starzz, Salt Lake City’s basketball team in the newly formed WNBA.
On The Street Interviews
Local individuals interviewed for the “On the Street” question were Herb Fish, Kay Taylor, Jack (J.J.) Smith and Michelle Heikens.
Talent in the Line Include Locals
Five ladies, five gents, and a comedian are on tap for the Country Talent Show at the Dodson Fair. The audience would hear Stacey Waid of Havre; Chrissy Foster and Christy Tremblay, both of Malta; Phillips County Junior Miss, Megan Parker; and Aimee Hammond, of Whitewater. Gents include Anthony Perry, Kevin Shettel, Jason McEwen, Warren Taylor, and Mark Christman of Wyoming. They would be joined by Tory Lodmell, who was set to tickle the funny bone as an up-start comedian.
School Board Approves Sabbatical
Malta School Board approved a one-year sabbatical for Gaelen Curtis, allowing her to pursue additional education.
Vows to Be Exchanged
Evelyn Steffen and Rick Heuscher invited guests to witness the exchanging of their wedding vows. A reception was to be held at the Senior Citizen Center following the ceremony.

DePuydt Commissioned
Greg DePuydt was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the regular army; he also received a distinguished military graduate award. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis DePuydt of Saco, and his grandmother, Mrs. Mike Perraut of Malta attended the service.
Gal Softballers Win Over Saco and Hinsdale
Stine’s women’s softball team claimed two victories over Saco and Hinsdale. In the Saco game, they won 11-10 and over Hinsdale, they won 8-6. Playing for Malta were Joyce Wright, Vonda Fredrickson, and Jackie Halvorson among others.
Waters Back and at Plaza Ford
Martin Waters was back from college and working at Plaza Ford as a Car Salesman. He was offering a 1971 Ranchero, a one-owner car with low mileage for $2895.
Swimmers Represent Malta at Bozeman
Malta swimmers at Divisional in Bozeman include Janna Tribby, Tana Hammar, Sheryl Flatt, Lanny Sue Holman, Joe Berg, Robert Shell, Leonard Malin, and Stuart Bourassa. Others participating were Silvia Caballalero, Diane Mavencamp, and Betty Paulson.

Train Students in Schools, Says Officer
An urgent suggestion that automobile driving instruction be added to the curriculum of local schools, was made to the Malta Kiwanians at their regular Tuesday night meeting by Glenn M. Schultz, of the Montana Highway Patrol.
Sons Born
Sons were born this week in the local hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Bednarczyk and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Blatter.
More Grandstand Seats in Place
Approximately 400 additional seats have been added and are in place, reports President Edgar Lee, in readiness for the 32nd annual event.
Hospital At Galen For Indians Is Passed By House
Authorization for construction with federal funds of an Indian tuberculosis hospital in Galen, MT, passed the House last week. The hospital was needed “desperately” to provide medical care for Indian tuberculosis sufferers. More than 25 percent of Montana’s tuberculosis victims are Indians, for whom adequate treatment is not available.

Ford cars driven by Mr. Sundin and Dave Claypool collided near the Southwick farm south of town. Mrs. Hotz and her four children, riding in the rear seat of the Claypool car, were thrown out and she was badly bruised.
First Crop of Wheat Brought to Elevator
The first load of new wheat was brought to the Farmers Elevator. Mel Houston reported his barley was going 20 bushel per acre.
Candidate Files for State Representative
Mrs. Florence Kerr Facey had announced her intention of running for the Republican nomination as a state representative.
County Fair Dates Set
The 1922 Phillips County Fair was set for September 13, 14, and 15. The Malta band was to put in an appearance and the fair was to be “bigger and better than ever.”
Large Oil Company Activity
There was considerable activity on the Bowdoin dome with several large oil companies bidding for leases. “Prosperity, here she comes” exulted the Enterprise.
