One Nation, Under God
An unplanned inconvenience was experienced by several of our south residents as a small portion of Content Road was temporarily closed yesterday and you folks deserve an explanation.
Old, unstable mining explosives were discovered at a residence just south of Malta on US 191.EOD personnel from Malmstrom Air Force Base were called in to destroy the explosives.
Because of the unstableness of the explosives in question, it was necessary to find a location as near to the location the explosives were found in order to not transport them farther than necessary and to safeguard the safety of the public as well as the personnel
transporting the explosives. All necessary steps were taken to mitigate the accidental explosion of the explosives prior to and during transport. The most suitable place to accomplish the safe destruction of the explosives was a state-owned section of land just south of Malta on Content Road. Again,to safeguard the public, it was necessary to close that portion of the road during the destruction of the explosives.
Fire and Ambulance personnel were on hand should something happen during the incident.
I can tell you, I'm impressed by the professionalism and knowledge of the EOD personnel who took care of this dangerous and unexpected situation. They took great care in planning, preparing for and transporting the explosives in the safest manner possible. No injuries occurred during the entire situation and that was the goal. I thank the citizens who were inconvenienced yesterday for their cooperation in this unplanned exercise.
Hopefully we won't have to experience this situation again.
