One Nation, Under God

The PC News Welcomes a Familiar Face to the Team

It might have been an English class with Mr. Dale Edmister that sparked an interest in writing (and that was in high school and a long time ago), yet it brought a local to the office of the Phillips County News. A graduate of Malta High School, Kari (Green) Hould was welcomed and hit the ground running last week as the latest addition to the PCN Staff.

"We are thrilled to add Kari to the staff here at the PCN," PCN Publisher Pierre Bibbs said. "Mrs. Hould has worked with the PCN for a long time and her knowledge of the county's history, hard work ethic, and joyful demeanor is well welcomed."

Born, raised and educated in Malta, Hould has lived in the county all her life. Living with her family in the Content community for her first years she recalls teachers in the country school, in a time before the world got hectic.

Born as the second child of six to Dale and Fern (Oxarart) Green, attending the Washington School in south Phillips County provided her opportunities to grow up amongst cousins and family.

In the third grade, Kari was attending the Four Corners School at South Wagner with classmates Robin Barrett and Sid Hould. The same kid that she tantalized would become her husband in 1971.

Kari compiled and wrote the weekly gathering of community happenings in 1971 for South Wagner in the PCN.

She and Sid raised five children, Janine (Tuss) and Shannon (Stroh) graduated from Dodson and Sarah (Johnson), Preston and Scott graduated from Malta. All five graduated and attended college. Houlds have 17 grandchildren and their legacy now has one great-grandson and six great-granddaughters with a seventh due this fall. Sid passed away in April of 2013. They spent 41 years together "raising cattle, crops, and kids".

In addition to writing articles for the PCN, Hould's interests include writing poetry, music at jam sessions, history preservation, painting, crafts, and photography. Kari volunteers by lending her time to VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries and is Chairperson for the "Juniors" of the AMA. As a great-grandmother she has competed in AMX races, stating her best achievement to date is second place. When she told her kids her desire to fly an ultra-light was on her Bucket List, the reply was "make it the LAST thing on your list!"

Ms. Hould said she is looking forward to trying out some of the ideas she has been tossing around for some time. She said she is always open to suggestions and welcomes your thoughts when you meet her, somewhere on the streets, roads, or highways.
