One Nation, Under God

The Fair Must, Can, and Will Go On

After the damage done by the high wind storm on April 5 and 6 of this year, the question of will there be any grandstand events this year at the 107th Phillips Count Fair has been answered. Yes!!

The Friday night concert, Saturday derby/AMX races, and the Sunday Indian Relays and chariot races will all be held.

PC Fair board member, Eric Wilke, told the PC News that the upper level of the grandstands will not be used. They have been considered unsafe.

"We will be able to use the lower section of the grandstands and we are also bringing in some of the bleachers from the Hi-Line Dragstrip," Wilke said. "The upper level has been looked at by the State Inspectors and by the insurance company a couple of times and it just isn't worth taking any chances."

Wilke added that all of the offices and rooms underneath the grandstands are off-limits as well.

"Everything that was held in those rooms will be moved to one of the outbuildings," said Wilke. "The area where the Boy Scouts have their food stand will be ok. It isn't underneath the grandstands and just shares that back wall."

Wilke also made a note to say that the canopy over the grandstands will be completely gone, so there will not be any shade in the stands.

Tickets for all three nights are being sold right now on the Phillips County Fair website, and the Friday night and Saturday night events will soon be sold at the banks in town as well.

Wilke said, "Ticket sales are doing really well right now. We have sold more at this point than we have for quite a few years."

The old adage 'The show must go on' seems to fit perfectly here, and the people of Phillips County will adjust, adapt, and pitch in to help wherever help is needed, as they always do.
