Malta Swim Team Ready to Take on the Season

At the end of last season, then swimmer/coach Darrow Messerly was saying that he had really enjoyed his time with the swim team and was wishing them well in the years to follow. Fast forward to this year and now, just coach Messerly, is back at the helm of the swim team.

“I am excited about this year’s team,” said Messerly. “I can’t remember how many we had out last year, but we have grown to 27 swimmers this year. It’s a really good group and I am looking forward to seeing how they come together.”

Last year’s team qualified eight swimmers for the state meet and ended up finishing third as a team at state.

This year’s team consists of 27 members from five different age groups.

Bantams (ages 8 and under): Aubrie Norville, Sokoya Love, John Millican, George Millican, Erin Solberg, Taije Stiles, and Haidyn Hould.

Midgets (9-10): Jayne Young, Ellie Norville, Skye Love, Brooke Negus, Mariah Hould, Sadie Lamoreau, Jaxon Beck, and Shelby Snellman.

Juniors (11-12): Silas Young, Taya Wilke, Chevelle Stiles, Miracle Love, and Rosie Day.

Intermediates (13-14): Danika Wilke, Kael Young, Michael Love, and Malin Beck.

Seniors (15-18): Reese Brown and Kira Beck

The season for the team has already gotten underway. Their first meet was on June 4-5 in Harlem and this past weekend, the team was in Chinook. Results for these meets will be in next week’s edition.

The team will have a home meet this year on July 9-10.

The team will also be holding a Swim-A-Thon fundraiser on June 29. They are asking all Malta Swim Team alumni to join in on the fun and “see if you can keep up”.
