Malta Golfer Wins in Wolf Point; Saco's Lone Golfer Wins in Glasgow

As the season starts to wind down, the Phillips County golf teams took in two more prep tournaments before Malta plays host on Tuesday, May 10, for the divisional tournament.

On Wednesday, May 4, the teams were in Wolf Point for the Poplar Invitational.

Kaden Bishop took first place overall for the boy's team with a score of 81. Ashton Weston shot a 99, good for eighth place, Kellen Murray shot a 105 for 10th place and Connor Clausen shot 102 for 21st.

"Kaden put together a really good day," said Coach Kate Webb.

The M-ettes were led by Brittney Sorlie with a score of 97, followed by Sydney Gibbs 100, Kennedy Koss 105, and Laviday Grotte-Dalby 110.

Laynee Simpson, Saco's only golfer shot a 118, which was good for 9th. That turned out to be a good warm-up for Friday, May 6, when the teams were in Glasgow.

Simpson took home the first-place medal from the Scottie Golf Invite with a score of 119.

There were only two Malta M-ettes at the meet due to a conflict with the State Music Festival in Billings on May 6-7.

Kyann Bergos tied for second place with a score of 121, and Josselyn Hoge shot a 147, good for 8th.

Spencer Gibbs led the Mustangs at Glasgow, with a score of 116. Followed by Ashton Weston (123), Branton Moore (128), and Jason Negus (154).

The teams set their sights on the divisional tournament, held at Marion Hills Golf Course in Malta on May 9-10. With a practice round on the 9th and the tournament on the 10th.
