One Nation, Under God
Bill Harvey is a new face at the Phillips County Hospital and Clinic as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Harvey grew up in Louisiana, just north of New Orleans, but always had a desire to live in Montana.
"My stepdad always talked about Montana," said Harvey. "As a young kid, we would come up here to hunt and fish."
Bill and his wife Laurie live in Gildford, MT. Laurie is a nurse at Rocky Boy Health Center and is currently going to school to be a Nurse Practitioner for mental health.
The couple has four kids, three daughters, and a son. The oldest daughter will be graduating from LPN school in May. The middle daughter is married and is ranching. The youngest daughter will be a senior at Havre High next year, and their son, the youngest of the group is a freshman at North Star.
Bill is a veteran of the Navy where he spent four years. Two at a Naval Hospital and two attached to the Marines in a Quick Reaction Force. A unit that was part of the Black Hawk Down incident in the Battle of Mogadishu.
Bill went to Nursing School at MSU Northern in Havre, getting his Associates Degree in 2000 and his BSN in 2007.
He was in the Navy Reserves for six years while going to school at Northern, and the Army Reserves for four years at Fort Knox as part of the Med. Board where he would decide if a soldier was medically cleared to go back to duty or not.
Bill enjoys the outdoors and has trained horses in the past.
"One of my daughters was a barrel racer. It's hard work training horses, but it's rewarding when you see a horse that you trained beat some of the high dollar horses," said Harvey.
So if you see Bill around town or at the hospital, be sure to thank him for his service and welcome him to the community.
