One Nation, Under God
Ag Day was back in Malta on Friday, March 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., after a two-year break due to you know what, and judging by the attendance, it was missed!
The members of the Malta Fire Department were cooking hamburgers, fish sandwiches, baked beans, and drinks at the fire station for a freewill donation. They also had some of their new purchases out on tables for people to see what their money/donations are going towards. (Personal note, the Flir thermal guns are really fun to look through!)
"We had a ton of people," said Fire Chief Josh Newman. "We made 500 burgers, we dropped one, and only had 17 or 18 left. We ran out of fish, and beans. I'd say it went really well."
Across the street in city hall, the Phillips County Extension Office played host to local businesses that set up booths for attendees to peruse, with drawings and lots of free items to enjoy.
"With a two-year hiatus, I think attendance by booth exhibitors and visitors was very good," said Phillips County Extension Agent Marko Manoukian.
The Cattlewomen held a baking contest with pies and cupcakes and held a silent auction for those goods after the judging.
"We had 12 pie submissions and five cupcake submissions," said Taylor French of the Cattlewomen. "A big thanks to our judges, participants, and those who purchased the pies in our silent auction."
The Pie Winners:
1st – Cathy Salsbery (peach pie), 2nd – Sara Townsend, 3rd – David Wandrie.
Cupcake Contest Winners:
9 yrs. and up 1st – Kayla Ottinger, 2nd - Sadie Lamoreau.
8 yrs. and under 1st – Cote and Andie French
"I would say that the 2022 Agriculture Day was a huge success," said Manoukian. "Thank you to Cattlewomen and the Malta Fire Department men for participating in this day of celebration."
